Malcolm-Jamal Warner Was Swimming With His Daughter, 8, When He Drowned

More information is emerging about Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s tragic death.

As I reflect on the unfortunate incident involving the beloved actor from The Cosby Show who tragically passed away due to an accidental drowning off the shores of Costa Rica on July 20th, it’s important to note that he was swimming with his precious 8-year-old daughter before this heartbreaking event occurred.

As reported by authorities, surfers spotted a father and daughter in distress and immediately jumped into the water to assist them. Meanwhile, one surfer employed his board to transport the young girl to safety, while according to ABC News, a volunteer lifeguard rescued Warner from the water. Upon reaching the shore, Warner received approximately 45 minutes of CPR.

Beyond just Warner and his little girl, another fellow found himself needing aid right there on the spot, and later, he was rushed to a nearby medical facility in a life-threatening state. I’m absolutely invested in their wellbeing.

In a statement released on July 22, the Costa Rican Red Cross informed NBC News that they had handed over the situation to local police authorities for further action. They also mentioned that two individuals had been swept away by the ocean current at the beach, but when the paramedics arrived, both individuals were already out of the water.

After the unfortunate event, I personally confirmed with the Costa Rican National Police that the cause of death for Warner, as reported by ABC News, was asphyxiation.

Or more concisely: Following confirmation from the Costa Rican National Police, it was revealed that the cause of Warner’s demise, as disclosed by ABC News, was asphyxiation.

After Warner’s passing, several friends and past co-stars, such as Bill Cosby, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Raven-Symone, shared their sorrow and grief following this unfortunate event.

In a July 21st Instagram post filled with photos of us, Ross expressed his affection by saying, “I adore you, Malcolm.” He initially knew you as Theo to everyone else, but you became my first TV spouse. My heart is incredibly heavy with sorrow.

In my own words, as someone devoted to understanding this figure, let me share that just two months before his passing, Warner articulated clearly what he envisioned his enduring impact to be.

Warner expressed during an episode of the Hot & Bothered with Melyssa Ford podcast on May 21st, ‘I can depart from this world with the knowledge that others recognize my goodness.’ His father frequently told him, ‘People admire you and often discuss your career and achievements, but what truly fills me with pride is seeing you as a good person.’

Besides playing the memorable character of Theodore Huxtable on the popular NBC sitcom, this actor has also appeared in significant roles on other shows such as “Reed Between the Lines” and “The Resident.

He once recalled his mother telling him, “‘Mr. Cosby bestowed immortality upon you,’ which indicates a certain legacy. However, since my life has taken on a different path after the show, I also have the opportunity to create a separate, equally meaningful legacy.
