Man of Tomorrow: James Gunn Reveals How Much of DCU Movie Is Already Storyboarded

James Gunn has revealed how much of Man of Tomorrow is already storyboarded.

I’m so excited for the next Superman movie! It’s officially happening as a follow-up to the one coming out in 2025. James Gunn is directing, and thankfully David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are both coming back as Superman and Lex Luthor – they were perfect for those roles!

What did James Gunn say about Man of Tomorrow?

James Gunn recently shared a peek at storyboards for the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie on Threads, and revealed that a significant portion – though not the entire film – has already been storyboarded.

Gunn explained that once storyboards are finished, they—along with detailed shot lists—are shared with all the relevant department heads. He described them as being just as crucial as the script itself. The team then holds meetings to review each shot, projecting the storyboards to discuss what’s needed to bring it to life. Complex action sequences might require multiple reviews, while simpler scenes are usually covered in a single meeting.

When asked about how closely the final movie matches the storyboards, Gunn said he always makes improvements and adds his own creative touches. However, the storyboards – particularly the detailed shot descriptions – provide a very clear foundation to begin with.

Although James Gunn hasn’t confirmed anything yet, The Wrap reports that Brainiac will be the main villain in the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie. Frank Grillo is also set to return as Rick Flag Sr. Details about the story are still being kept secret.

I’m really excited for “Man of Tomorrow” to hit theaters on July 9, 2027! And if you’re looking for a Superman fix right now, you can stream it over on HBO Max.
