It’s been quiet regarding the DC Universe since the finale of Peacemaker Season 2, but that’s not a cause for concern. The season ended with a major reveal: Peacemaker is trapped in a reality called Salvation, discovered by A.R.G.U.S. While this might seem like a small detail, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has confirmed that Season 2 of Peacemaker directly sets up his next project, Man of Tomorrow. This upcoming Superman sequel will feature the Man of Steel and his greatest enemy joining forces against a powerful new threat.
James Gunn has been careful not to reveal who the villain will be in Man of Tomorrow, wanting to keep it a surprise. But industry publications have been trying to uncover details about the upcoming DC Universe film. According to The Wrap, Brainiac will be the main villain and the one uniting DC’s enemies in the movie.
Brainiac, an android from the planet Colu, has a well-established rivalry with Superman in comic books. Usually, Superman objects to Brainiac’s relentless quest to collect knowledge from across the universe, regardless of the cost. However, their conflicts have sometimes become deeply personal, like the time Brainiac captured Krypton’s city of Kandor, shrunk it down, and displayed it as a prize.
Considering the DCU is already changing established storylines – like making Superman’s father, Jor-El, a villain focused on his son’s achievements – it’s likely Brainiac will be incorporated into Krypton’s history as well. However, whatever direction James Gunn chooses for the character will likely be well-received, as fans have been eager to see Brainiac’s iconic robotic form brought to life on the big screen for years.
DC Fans Have Been Yearning for Brainiac

Superman is a cornerstone of DC Comics, so it’s no surprise when new movies featuring him are announced. He’s been the lead in nine major films so far, often battling villains like Lex Luthor or General Zod. While he’s also faced lesser-known foes like Steppenwolf and Nuclear Man, Brainiac – widely considered Superman’s greatest enemy – has never appeared in a live-action movie… until now, with the upcoming DC Universe projects.
When James Gunn revealed his plan to unite Lex Luthor and Superman in Man of Tomorrow, fans immediately predicted that Brainiac would be a common enemy. A temporary lack of official news made it seem like those plans might change. But for now, it looks like Brainiac is still happening, and fans can start thinking about who should play the role! Chukwudi Iwuji is currently the frontrunner, though many other actors could convincingly portray the villain.
Man of Tomorrow hits theaters on July 9, 2027.
