The popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian is getting a theatrical release with a new movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu. The trailer for the film has confirmed a fan theory about a villain originally seen in The Clone Wars. This movie is the next chapter in Jon Favreau’s Star Wars story and will be in theaters on May 22, 2026.
As with any Star Wars project, the new film is packed with references, connections to previous stories, and hidden details for fans to discover – enough to fill a whole section on the Wookiepedia website. The latest trailer features familiar faces like Hutts and a young Greedo, and even briefly shows a character many fans believed would be a villain.
Mandalorian & Grogu’s New Trailer Confirms Embo The Bounty Hunter Will Appear
The new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, released on February 17th, reveals more details about the upcoming movie. About a minute into the trailer, a tall, thin figure appears walking in the rain. Shortly after, we find out this mysterious character is named Embo.
Embo, first appearing in the animated series The Clone Wars, is part of a growing number of characters from The Clone Wars and Rebels who have transitioned to live-action Star Wars shows, including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka.
Several characters who now appear in Disney+ shows—like Bo-Katan Kryze, Cad Bane, Garazeb “Zeb” Orellios, Jai Kell, and Ahsoka Tano—first appeared in animated series. It looks like Embo might also play a significant part in The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Who Embo Is In The Clone Wars
Embo was first introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He’s a bounty hunter belonging to the Kyuzo, a reptilian species – similar to the character Bossk from the original Star Wars movies. Known for his wide-brimmed hat and the bowcaster weapon he carries, Embo has a look and feel reminiscent of a wandering Ronin or Samurai.
Embo, a character from The Clone Wars, is a mercenary who takes jobs from anyone willing to pay – including the Hutts, Boba Fett, Asajj Ventress, and even the New Republic. Like many bounty hunters in Star Wars, he has a personal code of ethics and sometimes refuses to complete a kill if it goes against his beliefs.
Embo Was Previously Rumored To Be An Antagonist In The Mandalorian And Grogu Movie
For years, fans have been predicting that the character Embo might become a villain opposing the Mandalorian. Many even guessed he’d show up in the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu movie. If you look back at old Reddit discussions about the movie announcement, you’ll find lots of people mentioning Embo as a potential character.
Disney hasn’t officially confirmed these ideas, but they seem likely. Embo is a popular bounty hunter from The Clone Wars who hasn’t appeared in live-action yet. We don’t know how much of a role Embo will have in The Mandalorian and Grogu, but even a brief appearance has gotten fans excited, suggesting he could be a significant character.
