Mandy Moore Details “Unsuccessful” IVF Journey Before 3rd Pregnancy

Mandy Moore is sharing her journey with in vitro fertilization (IVF). 

Actress Mandy Moore, who has three children – August (5), Oscar (3), and Louise (21 months) – with her husband Taylor Goldsmith, recently shared her experience with fertility treatments before the birth of their third child.

Mandy shared on the June 3rd episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast that her recent IVF treatment wasn’t successful. They weren’t able to get any usable eggs or develop any embryos. She explained that she took this as a sign that if she was meant to have a child, it would happen on its own.

I was very fortunate to be able to have two sons, and as I got older, I started thinking it would be nice to have a little more time between children if we decided to have a third one.

But no matter what happened, she was more than happy with her family of four. 

Mandy fondly remembered feeling incredibly grateful and happy with the two men, adding that her family would be complete if things went as she hoped.

Mandy, 42, shared that she and Taylor were considering IVF as a backup plan – a way to preserve an embryo until they felt ready for another child. However, their plans took an unexpected and wonderful turn.

Anne Hathaway playfully referred to her newborn daughter as a surprise, joking that she ‘just had to show up!’ The couple welcomed their third child in 2024.

“We were not trying,” she added, “but obviously we were open to it because of the IVF of it all.”

Mandy was excited to have more children, but she also openly shared how difficult motherhood can be.

“I had three kids in three and a half years,” she said, adding, “I feel like I’m still recovering.”

She shared that she felt fortunate to have had a very easy pregnancy and recovery. She didn’t experience any postpartum issues, so overall, she considered her journey to be quite smooth.

The actress, known for her role in Tangled, has publicly shared her diagnosis of thrombocytopenia, a condition where the body has a low number of platelets. According to the Mayo Clinic, dangerously low platelet counts can lead to severe, even life-threatening bleeding, especially if someone is injured or needs surgery.

Because of her condition, Mandy was advised to have “unmedicated” births for her first two kids. 

During her third pregnancy, doctors recommended she take steroids before delivery, anticipating a possible C-section. This helped increase her platelet count enough to safely receive an epidural.

As she said of the experience, “I will say the epidural was a delight.”

Caelynn from Bachelor Nation recently opened up about the challenges she and her husband, Dean Bell, have faced trying to have a baby since getting married in 2023.

In a YouTube video from March 2025, Caelynn shared that she’s taking a more relaxed approach. “It’s tough,” she said, “but I’m not stressing about it as much as I did when I first started trying.”

Okay, so it’s been so hard watching Caelynn go through this, but honestly, she’s being such a rockstar. She and her husband are getting all these medical tests done, and she’s staying so positive while they’re trying to figure everything out. In June 2025, she shared that she froze her eggs for the third time.

Regardless of what the future holds as they consider having another child, Whitney has repeatedly emphasized that her current family of three is already complete and fulfilling.

In a heartfelt birthday message to her son on his 7th birthday in July 2024, she shared that they feel complete as a family, especially as they begin trying for another child. She described him as a wonderful blessing, expressing their joy in watching him grow and appreciating his easygoing personality.

Michelle Yeoh, known for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, recently discussed the difficulties she faced when trying to get pregnant with her first husband, Dickson Poon. She married Jean Todt in 2023 after being engaged for 19 years.

Michelle revealed in a November 2024 podcast interview that she always dreamed of having children. She explained she tried fertility treatments to help make that happen, but found the monthly attempts incredibly difficult. She described feeling like a failure each month when they weren’t successful.

She explained that eventually, you need to stop blaming yourself. Sometimes our bodies just don’t work the way we expect, and that’s okay. The important thing is to accept it and keep moving forward.

The rapper, who has a son named Wilde with her husband Maximillion Cooper, previously revealed she suffered a devastating pregnancy loss due to an ectopic pregnancy while working on her TV show, Eve.

In her memoir, Who’s That Girl?, Eve shared that she discovered she was pregnant in 2006. She needed immediate surgery, which meant taking a two-week break from filming. Looking back, she admits she’s not sure why she told everyone on set she had appendicitis – perhaps because she wasn’t being honest with herself about the situation.

She explained that if she lost her baby, she wasn’t sure two weeks would be enough time to recover emotionally. As it turned out, even that wasn’t quite enough physical recovery time before she had to return to work on set. The surgery had left her very weak and she’d lost a lot of weight.

She explained that she felt exhausted from keeping her difficulties to herself, which led her to share her story in a 2021 essay. She described a deeply difficult and painful experience, saying she often felt detached and like she was going through an unjust and unpredictable cycle of bad news.

She explained that she’s comfortable speaking openly and honestly about her difficult experience, and understands many couples and families struggle with similar challenges when trying to have a child.
