MAPPA’s Dark Fantasy Anime Sets the Stage for Winter 2026’s Best Action Series (& It’s Not Jujutsu Kaisen)

While MAPPA’s Jujutsu Kaisen is already considered the best action anime of Winter 2026 with its third season, another MAPPA series is building towards potentially surpassing it. Everyone in the anime community is watching Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, especially its latest story arc. The show is famous for its high-quality action, and fans are still talking about the incredibly intense fight sequence featuring Maki and her battle against the Zenin clan.

Both Jujutsu Kaisen and Hell’s Paradise are shaping up to be incredible action anime this year. Jujutsu Kaisen’s third season is adding new characters and promising even more intense battles, potentially making it the best action series of the year. However, Hell’s Paradise, also produced by MAPPA and currently airing its second season, is a strong contender. As the mysteries of the islands unfold and the expeditioners face greater dangers, Hell’s Paradise is becoming increasingly brutal and could ultimately surpass Jujutsu Kaisen in terms of action. With MAPPA’s involvement in both shows, viewers can expect a consistently high level of quality in the fight scenes.

Hell’s Paradise Season 2 Challenges Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3’s Action

Season 2 of Hell’s Paradise is continuing to reveal the secrets of Shinsenkyo island, adding new and thrilling twists to the story. The arrival of Shugen Asaemon, a character driven by a strict and fearsome sense of justice, has created an interesting new dynamic. Meanwhile, Gabimaru and his group have decided their best bet is to secretly steal the elixir and escape. However, the latest episode threw a curveball: the Tensen were already anticipating their plan and are ready to capture them.

This latest turn of events allows Gabimaru and his allies to finally face the Tensen, despite their initial desire to avoid a fight for their lives. With all of the Tensen joining the battle, the conflict will likely break into several individual fights, promising an incredible amount of action. The arrival of Shugen’s expedition adds another layer to the conflict, raising the stakes even higher. In comparison, the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen is still early in its Culling Game arc. While new characters have been introduced and suggest exciting battles to come, so far the season has mostly focused on characters learning the rules of the arc and exchanging initial attacks.

The current setup keeps the main conflict feeling separate from the characters’ immediate experiences, which doesn’t make the action feel as impactful. However, Hell’s Paradise is promising much higher stakes and isn’t holding back on intense visuals, meaning the action sequences will likely be much darker and more exciting. While the animation might not be quite as polished as Jujutsu Kaisen, it’s noticeably improved in Season 2, and with a big action arc coming up, the studio MAPPA has the potential to really push the visual quality even further. This could establish Hell’s Paradise as the best action anime of the winter season, and even one of the best action series of the year, potentially outshining Jujutsu Kaisen.
