Bungie has kept silent about the release date for Marathon since its postponement from September. However, during a question-and-answer session following their financial report, Sony hinted that it could be launched within the current fiscal year. This implies a potential release before April 1st, 2026, but it’s important to note that this is not an official guarantee.
Lin Tao, the Chief Financial Officer, indicated through an interpreter (transcription via VGC) that regarding “Marathon,” they have factored it into their forecast, anticipating its launch to occur within the fiscal year. However, it’s important to note that this is not a guarantee, as no official announcement has been made yet.
Tao confirmed that adjustments are still being made to the game extraction process, and they anticipate announcing a new release date for it this Fall. Essentially, they’re working on improvements in development, and they expect to share the launch date, whether it’s from Bungie or PlayStation, by Autumn.
In preparation for its official release date announcement, Bungie is conducting additional closed trials featuring dynamic events, novel loot items, enhanced AI interactions, and a more intense, strategic combat experience. They also pledged visual upgrades, hints of which were seen in leaked screenshots from a recent alpha test, as well as a moodier atmosphere to align with the original trilogy’s tone.
Right now, the game known as Marathon is being worked on for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. The delay in its release came following a dispute, where a former art director allegedly used assets from an independent artist without their consent.
