Now that you understand how seasons work in Marathon, let’s look ahead to Season 1. Expect a challenging experience – Bungie says it’s aptly titled “DEATH IS THE FIRST STEP”! The season will introduce the Factions as they explore the New Cascadia Colony on Tau Ceti IV.
Players can also venture onto the UESC Marathon, which holds the final Cryo Archive. But accessing it requires teamwork! It won’t just be about how much time you’ve spent playing Bungie games – you’ll need to solve a puzzle together, and it’s going to be challenging.
Ranked Mode will launch in late March, and while we’ll share more details soon, it will include special rewards. Along with Ranked Mode, we’re adding a new weapon and implants, as well as improving game balance, running events, and making general quality-of-life improvements. Two maps will be available immediately, and a third, Outpost, will be released on March 6th – you’ll need to reach Runner Level 12 to play it. Overall, you can expect seven unique Runners, six Factions with their own missions and progression systems, 28 weapons, Achievements, and plenty of cosmetic items to earn.
Season 2, titled NIGHTFALL, runs from June to August and features increased security at the UESC. Players can also look forward to a nighttime version of Dire Marsh. Along with this, new Runner Shells, weapons, Contracts, modifications, and cores will be added. The Cradle system will also launch, allowing players to customize the strengths and weaknesses of their Runner Shells.
Season 3 is currently unannounced, but it’s planned to take place from August to November. The show will continue to develop and improve with each new season.
I’m so excited to hear Bungie talk about the future of Marathon! They’re saying the game is going to keep changing and growing with each season, and that a year from now, it’ll feel like a totally new experience. They’re really focusing on unraveling the mystery of what happened to the colonists on Tau Ceti, and it sounds like digging into that past is going to reveal some seriously dangerous secrets. I can’t wait to see what they uncover!
The game Marathon will release on March 5th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Players can also anticipate improvements to the user interface, though it won’t be getting a major visual overhaul in the near future.
