So, Marathon’s been doing really well with a ton of players online, which is awesome. But people noticed something kinda weird – if you try to mention ARC Raiders in the in-game chat, it gets automatically censored! I first saw Ninja point it out on his stream, and then Jake Lucky shared a clip of it. It’s a little strange, honestly, to see a game blocking mentions of another one.
The chat system seems to have a specific issue with the game ARC Raiders. While other games and swear words are generally allowed, typing “ARC Raiders” results in a string of hash marks. Interestingly, mentioning popular titles like Counter-Strike 2, Fortnite, or Apex Legends doesn’t trigger any censorship.
There’s been some discussion about possible censorship within the game Marathon, but the development team has clarified on social media that it doesn’t appear to be happening. They shared a screenshot on Twitter showing they were able to post the message, “Arc Raiders is awesome. 2 cakes!” without any problems.
The team behind ARC Raiders showed support for the Marathon Server Slam on social media. Embark Studios posted, “Whether you’re a Marathon player or an ARC Raiders player, we all love getting loot! We’ll make sure there’s room for everyone.”
We’re not sure why the profanity filter mistakenly flagged ARC Raiders, but it was probably just a glitch during the Marathon Server Slam that was fixed as soon as it was noticed.
This week, Bungie released a dramatic trailer for Marathon featuring the Rook Runner Shell. The trailer shows the scene after a battle, with fallen soldiers scattered around. The Rook arrives and begins to search through the wreckage, ultimately discovering a surviving enemy, the Destroyer. This suggests the game will focus more on stealth and gathering resources than direct combat for this particular shell.
A new gameplay clip of The Thief Shell was released just before the Marathon Server Slam, giving players a first-hand look at how it plays. The clip highlighted the character’s movement options, including its grappling hook, and demonstrated how players can use abilities and tools to stealthily approach and defeat enemies.
If you’re concerned about hackers and cheaters ruining the Marathon experience, you don’t need to be. Bungie has promised a strict zero-tolerance policy: anyone caught cheating will be immediately and permanently banned – there will be no exceptions.
The studio announced a permanent ban for anyone caught cheating in Marathon, with no exceptions. They also added that players who are wrongly flagged as cheaters can appeal the decision to avoid unfair bans.
If you’re planning to play Marathon, Bungie has announced what to expect after the game launches. Season 1 will include a ranked mode for competitive play, two new maps to explore, and ways to progress with different factions within the game.
I’m so excited for Marathon! It’s coming out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 5th, and it’ll cost $40. If you’re as hyped as I am, they’ve put together a list of 15 things you really need to know about the game.
