Marathon’s Recon Shell Will Get a More Aggressive Tracking Drone, Improved Ping in Mid-Season Patch

Bungie is making significant updates to Marathon that will impact how the game is played, changing everything from popular equipment like thermal scopes to defensive strategies like bubble shields. They’re also boosting the power of less-used Shell types, such as the Vandal and Recon. While the complete list of changes isn’t available yet, the developers shared a sneak peek on Twitter focusing on the Shell updates.

Echo Pulse, the Shell’s special ability, will now more easily identify enemy players and UESC robots. Other players can still use Signal Jammer to appear as a UESC threat when detected, but it will be harder for enemies to tell if they are within range of an Echo Pulse.

The Tracker Drone, which has been criticized for its spotty tracking, is receiving an upgrade. Not only will it be better at staying locked onto targets, but it will also automatically switch to a different enemy if it can’t reach the original one.

That’s just a small preview of update 1.0.6, launching on April 14th – we’ll share more details soon! Besides balancing the game, this update adds new items for both solo players and teams who like to finish things quickly. We’re also hoping to see the new Implants mentioned in our development roadmap appear in this update.
