Players of the game Marathon know the WSTR shotgun is a serious threat, whether they encounter it in the Cryo Archive vents or the dark hallways of Tau Ceti IV. It can defeat most opponents with only two shots – just enough before needing to reload. A reduction in its power seemed likely, and the game director, Joe Ziegler, has now announced it will happen on April 21st.
As a big player, I’ve noticed one weapon is becoming super popular and overshadowing a lot of others for close-range fights. The developers are making a change so it can’t instantly take down enemies with Blue or higher rarity shields with just two hits. Don’t worry though, it’ll still be great for quickly taking out enemies with Green shields, which means we can still easily farm those Free Kit Runners to get Contracts!
Ziegler explains this update will make the game reload when an enemy has a protective shield, giving players a better chance to react. While it might make it harder for players who rely on taking on multiple enemies at once or hiding to pick off lone opponents, the WSTR will still be a helpful tool – just not the only way to play.
This isn’t the final balance update – the team is still monitoring several issues, and more changes are likely. For now, enjoy the current state of WSTR before any adjustments are made!
