A sequel to the popular animated film, KPop Demon Hunters, is in the works, but fans will have to be patient – it’s not expected to arrive until 2029. Despite the wait, the film’s success has kept characters like Rumi, Mira, and Zoey in the spotlight, with some unexpected appearances. To celebrate a significant achievement and with hopes of winning an Oscar this year, the demon hunters will be giving fans a special treat in March.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has reportedly sent a letter indicating that KPop Demon Hunters‘ popular song, “Golden,” will be performed live. While it’s not certain who will perform it—possibly EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami—the letter states that due to time constraints, only “Golden” and one other nominated song will be featured. Sources say “I Lied To You” from Sinners’ will also be performed, likely meaning Miles Caton, the film’s star, will perform at this year’s Academy Awards.

For those seeking the official announcement, here’s what it says: This year, the nominated songs for Best Original Song will be presented with the same attention and care as all other awards. Each song will be featured on the show with a special introduction using clips from the movie it’s from, highlighting its role in the film. The nominations for Best Original Song include tracks from KPop Demon Hunters, Golden and Sinners, Viva Verdi, Train Dreams, and Diane Warren: Relentless. Given the Academy Awards’ history of running long, only two of these songs will be performed live during the ceremony. It’s unclear whether this limited performance slot will give one of those two songs a significant advantage in winning the award.
The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 15th, 2026, and comedian Conan O’Brien will host. The animated film KPop Demon Hunters has received two nominations: Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature, giving the creators a chance to win two Oscars that night. Even if they don’t win any awards, the movie’s huge success on Netflix guarantees sequels, a TV series, live performances, and other exciting projects are already in the works.
