March 2026 Nintendo Direct Indie World Reveals Huge Switch 2 Shadow Drop & Major Release Dates

Okay, so March is here, and it finally feels like things are really happening in gaming! We’ve already had a bunch of Nintendo Directs this year, giving us detailed looks at first-party games like Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and others. But the Direct we got on March 3rd wasn’t quite the big one everyone’s hoping for. It was an Indie World showcase, focusing on cool indie games coming to the Switch and Switch 2 in 2026. And honestly, I was really impressed with some of the announcements they made!

While many are waiting for news on first-party games like the next Super Mario or Super Smash Bros., some of the most exciting games lately have come from independent studios. Nintendo’s Indie World showcase today highlighted a diverse range of these games, from relaxing builders like Woodo to sequels like Moonlighter 2. The biggest announcement? Blue Prince, which won Indie Game of the Year, is available on the Switch 2 starting today! The showcase featured around 30 minutes of exciting indie game news, and if you missed the Nintendo Direct video, here’s a quick recap of the highlights.

Every Big Reveal from the March 2026 Nintendo Indie World Showcase

If you’ve been hoping for a new Nintendogs game, here’s an update with mixed news. A new adventure game called My Little Puppy is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 29th, and it does feature adorable dogs! However, be warned: it’s a touching story about a dog traveling through the afterlife to find his owner. It’s cute, but prepare for some feels!

The popular shopkeeping roguelike game, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. It’s currently available in Early Access on Steam with overwhelmingly positive feedback, and is also planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The developers have now confirmed that Moonlighter 2 will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 once the full version of the game is released, with an expected launch window in 2026. A specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.

The indie game Mixtape will launch on May 7th. Developed by Beethoven & Dinosaur and published by Annapurna Interactive, the game tells a story about growing up and focuses on the experiences of being a teenager. Players can also look forward to playing on the Nintendo Switch, in addition to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The recent gaming showcase was great news for fans of relaxing, cozy games. Several titles were confirmed for both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, with many getting specific release dates. For example, the pixel art farming mystery game Grave Seasons is scheduled to launch in Summer 2026 and will also be available on Switch. The Japanese shopkeeping simulator inKonbini is coming to both Switch and Switch 2 on April 30th. Plus, Outbound, a highly-rated demo from Steam Next Fest, will arrive on Switch and Switch 2 on April 23rd.

No Nintendo Direct would be complete without a few surprise releases, and today’s Indie World showcase delivered! Both Minishoot and Rotwood (exclusive to the Switch 2) are available to download right now. But the biggest surprise of all? The popular mystery game Blue Prince is available on the Nintendo Switch 2, starting today as a shadow drop during the Indie World showcase.

Unfortunately, we still haven’t heard any updates about Witchbrook. However, the Indie World showcase was still pretty good, featuring some exciting games. Now we’re hoping Nintendo will soon announce a first-party Direct – the one everyone’s been anticipating!
