Mariah Carey Reveals Feelings About Eminem Feud

It’s clear that Mariah Carey isn’t obsessed with drama.

This is particularly true when discussing her longstanding competitor Eminem. The “Obsessed” singer addressed the story that their feud began because she declined to portray the rapper’s mother in 8 Mile.

“It’s unclear who made the first move,” Mariah shared on the Oct. 1 episode of Watch What Happens Live when asked if there was any truth to the story. “Possibly, it really depends on what he was thinking at the time.”

Even though host Andy Cohen wondered if that event started the conflict, Mariah didn’t seem to care about the “Mockingbird” rapper’s problems with her.

“I honestly don’t mind,” she replied. “If he’s claiming I am something, that’s okay. Actually, it’s just a line from a rap song.”

In June, Mariah’s previous manager, Damizza Young, stated he was originally pleased to arrange a phone call between Mariah and the rapper to talk about a potential movie role. But once Eminem started speaking with her, the conversation quickly went poorly.

Damizza shared on the TFU podcast that Eminem, 52, once asked him to act like Mariah, 56’s, mother. He continued, “She did not appreciate that at all. It really brought out her insecurities.”

The longstanding feud between Mariah Carey and Eminem began when the “Lose Yourself” rapper stated they had a romantic relationship back in 2001, a claim Mariah has consistently refuted. Instead of addressing it directly, both artists have exchanged pointed lyrics in their songs. A notable example is Mariah’s 2009 single, “Obsessed,” and its music video, where she impersonated the rapper.

Regarding another well-known instance of Mariah Carey being subtly critical, she recently addressed her relationship with Jennifer Lopez, over 20 years after her famous comment, “I don’t know her.”

“Honestly, I was telling the truth when I said it,” she told Andy. “I’m just not sure why it turned into such a big deal. Usually, being honest doesn’t cause things to become big.”

 

As for knowing her now? Mariah doesn’t think so.

“How can I suddenly know—” she began, eliciting laughter from the audience. “Like, you know?”

This situation reportedly caused Shannen to leave the show in 2001.

In February 2024, Alyssa posted on Instagram, stating, “I couldn’t have gotten anyone fired” and adding that “this happened so long ago that anyone recounting these stories now is simply rewriting history.”

Speaking at a MegaCon Orlando panel the following day, Shannen stated, “There’s no attempt to rewrite history; the story we all remember is accurate.”

Shannen passed away in July 2024 after a yearslong battle with cancer.

She later explained that this stemmed from an incident where Bure declined to pose for a photo with her on a red carpet, leaving her feeling dismissed. Soon after, the Full House star apologized, saying, “I think I really broke your 11-year-old heart. I didn’t take a picture with you. Ugh! I feel terrible, I feel-JoJo, I am so sorry.”

The two resolved their differences. However, some months later, Candace was questioned about whether the Great American Family network-where she’s the chief creative officer-would ever showcase same-sex couples as the main characters in its Christmas films. She responded negatively, stating, “I believe Great American Family will continue to center around the definition of traditional marriage.”

JoJo, who publicly shared that they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, posted on Instagram that the actress’s statement was “rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.”

Back in June 2021, Courtney Love claimed that Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art of her band Hole for a promotional image without providing any credit. Olivia responded with, “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then replied, “Olivia – you’re welcome. My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! Dm me for details! The conflict between them began when Heidi started seeing her future husband, Spencer Pratt, and reached its most intense point when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false story about her allegedly being in a sex tape with Jason Wahler.

The actors involved in the Fast and Furious franchise resumed their long-standing conflict when Tyrese publicly criticized Dwayne on Instagram. This happened after the release date for Fast and Furious 9 was moved to April 2020. On the very same day, news came out about a Fast and Furious spin-off film featuring Dwayne and Jason Statham scheduled for release in 2019. Shortly after, Tyrese stated he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne remained part of the cast.

Tyrese later discussed the disagreement, explaining to Van Lathan on the The Red Pill podcast, “I still haven’t spoken to The Rock, but we plan to talk.” He also mentioned he had spoken with The Rock’s production partner, but not with The Rock directly.

Tyrese explained that he often ended up speaking for others connected to the film series, but he admitted he was the only one who voiced those opinions publicly, and he takes responsibility for that. “It wasn’t a professional thing to do, and it wasn’t the right approach,” he said.

Taylor and Katy were rivals for many years, and some believe their conflict even led to Taylor writing the song “Bad Blood.” The issues reportedly began because of a disagreement over a dancer and competition between their concert tours. However, the feud ended when Katy sent Taylor an actual olive branch as a peace offering before Taylor’s Reputation Tour began.

I just arrived at my dressing room and discovered a real olive branch,” Taylor said in an Instagram video. “This means so much to me.”

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

Sex and the City stars Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker had successfully avoided rumors of a disagreement for many years. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third film and subsequently made statements about her colleague that caused some concern.

Oh my god, I remember when Andy Cohen *had* to ask SJP about Kim Cattrall’s interview with Piers Morgan! It was on Watch What Happens Live, back in September 2017, and I was glued to the screen. He basically asked her, ‘So, what did you think when Kim said you two were never actually friends, just coworkers?’ I was *dying* to know her answer! It was such a messy situation, and Andy just had to ask, you know?

As she shared, “I was just… completely devastated. We talked about it all week, and honestly, I was really disturbed because that’s not how I remember things happening. It’s just not how I recall our experience at all.”

It’s definitely sad, but I feel like what really brought us together was this unique experience. It started as a professional project, but over the years, it became something personal because it took up so much of our lives. I’m hoping that shared history outweighs anything that’s been said recently,” she continued. “Spending so many years doing something special and connecting with people like that was a real privilege.

And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

 

The famous singers have been arguing since 2004. While receiving the Classic Songwriter Award at the Q Awards that year, Elton said to the audience, “Madonna, best fking live act? Fk off! Since when has lip-syncing been considered a live performance? I apologize for that, but I believe anyone who lip-syncs on stage in public, especially when people pay around 75 quid to see them, should be penalized.”

The conflict really escalated when Cardi noticed Nicki had reportedly liked, and then quickly unliked, a tweet criticizing Cardi’s skills as a parent. Nicki has stated that she did not actually do this.

Honestly, I was on track to make millions with my Bruno Mars tour, but I gave all that up to be there for my daughter. And let me tell you, I *adore* my daughter. I’m a really, really good mom, okay? So for someone who doesn’t even *have* a kid to criticize me like that? It’s just… frustrating. Everyone keeps saying that party wasn’t the right time or place to see him, but seriously, when am I ever gonna randomly run into another artist at the grocery store or just walking around? It’s not happening!

The conflict between Kanye and Taylor began in 2009. During her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye interrupted her while she was speaking. They eventually reconciled and became friends, but their relationship ended in 2026 after Kanye released his song “Famous,” which mentioned her by name.

On February 2025, the day before the Grammys, Kanye West began following only Taylor Swift on Instagram. He didn’t offer any explanation for this action, and Taylor Swift didn’t make any public statement in response.

It began during an interview where the singer, often called the Queen of Christmas, was asked about various artists. When asked specifically about Jennifer Lopez, Mariah responded, “I don’t know her.”
