At The Game Awards 2025, Nintendo shared a new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, offering fans a longer preview of their upcoming animated film. Following the popularity of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the sequel again teams up Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto to expand the Mario universe on the big screen.

A new video reveals the first meeting between Mario and Luigi and Bowser Jr. The scene takes place inside Princess Peach’s castle, where Bowser Jr. unexpectedly arrives, wielding a magical paintbrush that changes shape. He angrily demands they hand over his father, exclaiming, “I’m Bowser Jr. and I’m taking my father… right now!”

Trailers already showed that Bowser has been made tiny and is trapped inside a small fortress within the castle. Luigi tries to be friendly to calm things down, but it doesn’t work, and Bowser Jr. immediately attacks. A fight breaks out, and Luigi manages to get a quick hit in. Fans are really excited about this new footage.

The new movie brings back familiar faces alongside some exciting additions to the cast. Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson all return, while Brie Larson joins as Rosalina and Benny Safdie provides the voice for Bowser Jr.

The upcoming film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel, will continue the adventures of the popular franchise. It’s scheduled to hit theaters in North America on April 3, 2026, and will be released in Japan on April 24th.
