Mark Charnock hinted that his special Emmerdale episode next week will have a surprising twist for viewers.
The actor has been playing Marlon Dingle for over 25 years. Recently, his character has been dealing with a lot of emotional turmoil after his on-screen daughter, April Windsor (played by Amelia Flanagan), disappeared.
Marlon doesn’t know that April has become involved in dangerous criminal activity – drug dealing and sexual exploitation – with her boyfriend, Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle).
The teenagers have been tricked into thinking they owe a significant amount of money, leaving them vulnerable to Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) and his manipulative adoptive mother, Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths), who is a powerful crime boss.
April is currently staying elsewhere after her half-brother, Leo, accidentally ingested some pills she had dropped. Leo is particularly vulnerable, which makes the situation more serious.
Marlon is having a hard time rebuilding his relationship with his daughter, but April may soon be willing to talk to him and share what’s on her mind.

The actor explained that a surprising plot point completely took him by surprise while reading the script. He wished he’d known about it beforehand, as it was a major dramatic twist that really impacted him.
Viewers will learn about this surprising development next week, but the actor warned that the situation will likely get much more difficult before it improves.
Charnock highly commended the writing and explained how the episode portrays the relationship between April and Marlon.
She was expected at a family Halloween party, but didn’t come, which really upset him. The story starts with her finally arriving at the house to find him all alone.
What really struck me in the first act is the beautiful way the film portrays a father and daughter reconnecting. It’s not just about him getting to know his daughter again, but also about her remembering who she was before everything changed – and rediscovering that person alongside him. Honestly, it’s a genuinely moving experience.
He ended with a final hint: “There’s a lot of exciting content coming, and what’s really special about this story is how it will resonate with so many different people.”
The story has endless twists and turns, and while it’s quite dark, it’s compelling and dramatically effective.

When asked about Flanagan’s performance, Charnock praised her, saying she’s a truly gifted actress who can effortlessly bring emotion to her scenes.
I was really struck by the actress’s maturity in this role. You can just see a whole lifetime of experience in her eyes, and it comes through in her voice and the way she moves. She’s clearly a tremendously talented performer, and I have no doubt she’ll continue to deliver brilliant work.
The actor highlighted the impressive skills of everyone involved in the storyline, praising cast members like Tony Audenshaw (Bob), Celia Griffiths, and Zoë Henry (Rhona). He also shared his admiration for Joe Absolom, stating he’s a big fan.
“I already liked his work before he joined us so I was thrilled when he came into the show.
He’s not only a genuinely kind and collaborative person – many of us feel that way – but it’s also captivating to watch him perform.
He’s a captivating actor who really draws you into the character’s inner world, and his performance has been excellent.
