Mark Consuelos Reveals How Live! Impacts Sex Life With Kella Ripa

Mark Consuelos isn’t holding back when it comes to this bedroom detail.

After actress Christa Miller jokingly teased him about wanting to be intimate with his wife and co-host Kelly Ripa in the mornings, the 54-year-old explained what’s preventing him from doing so.

Mark told Christa on the March 3rd episode of Live With Mark and Kelly, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, that his work had actually prevented something else from happening. He described it as a solution to a potential problem.

Christa, who is married to the creator of Shrinking, Bill Lawrence, disagreed with Kelly’s suggestion that Mark just wants morning cuddles. She said they weren’t buying the idea that he simply wants to ‘cuddle’ in the morning.

Kelly jokingly responded to her husband’s explanation after 29 years of marriage, saying, “I always joke that cuddling eventually leads to trouble.”

The 55-year-old woman isn’t the only one who feels this way; Christa shared that she and Bill experience the same thing.

She explained that she only has a brief period in the afternoon when she can work. Plus, she needs to make sure Bill is home and doesn’t interrupt her. It’s a complicated process with many obstacles to overcome.

Christa asked Kelly to tell their husbands that she doesn’t approve of having sex in the morning.

Kelly, addressing the camera, pleaded with Bill, saying, “On behalf of everyone here in the studio—including our children Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22, who we share with Mark—let’s just say there’s definitely no intimacy happening in the mornings.”

Responding to his wife’s suggestion, Mark told Bill, the creator of Scrubs, “I think you should definitely do it.”

Kelly has previously said she wasn’t interested in having sex with her husband in the mornings. She explained that she had to set clear boundaries once they started working together in 2023.

As she shared on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in July, she told him, ‘Look, we need to find a balance. It can’t always be about what you want. It feels like you get your way most of the time—about 90 percent—and now that we’re working together daily, things need to be different. I need to get my way sometimes, and honestly, that’s just going to be at night.’

Oh my god, she actually said she had to take her retainer out! And him with the nasal strips… it’s just… honestly, she described them as totally repulsive and disgusting, and she’s already bracing herself for how awful she’s going to feel tomorrow morning thinking about it all. It’s so raw and real, I can’t stop thinking about it! It’s strangely fascinating, honestly.

Kelly Ripa jokingly complained on her show, Live! With Kelly, back in February 2017, that her husband, Mark Consuelos, gets irritable with her after they spend intimate time together. She said he becomes short-tempered and she finds it strange. While Kelly later said she was kidding, Mark felt the need to clarify things when the comment became a trending news story. He playfully responded that you can’t be mean to someone if you’re asleep, stating, “I sleep.” Kelly then clarified that she didn’t mean ‘mean’ exactly, but rather that he seems completely disinterested – like he’s fast asleep.

As a longtime fan, I totally get why Michael, Lola, and Joaquin Consuelos are so careful when they’re on social media! I remember when Mark announced he’d be taking over the Riverdale Instagram in 2019 – Kelly’s playful comment, “Oooooooooooo. Daddy, I love when you take over,” was so sweet, but it also showed how much attention they get. Honestly, I’m pretty sure the kids have done everything they can to scrub any mention of the family from their feeds. Kelly even told TopMob News in April 2023 that she’s certain they’ve blocked any account that mentions their names – and they block them any way they can! It’s just their way of creating some space, and I can’t blame them.

During a 2020 Halloween post featuring photos from years past – including one of her husband, Mark, and his friend Bruce Bozzi dressed as CHiPs officers – Kelly’s husband jokingly received some playful teasing. Someone commented on how snug his pants looked, and he claimed it was just a shadow. Kelly playfully questioned if he was actually seeing shadows. Later, on the show Daily Pop, host Justin Sylvester alluded to the reason for their long marriage, and Kelly admitted it was definitely a contributing factor – ranking it in her top three reasons!

Kelly jokingly admitted she now meticulously checks every photo of her family before posting it online. This habit started after the overwhelming response to their Halloween pictures. When a commenter noticed she seemed particularly careful about the photos she shared from a 2020 vacation, Kelly playfully responded, saying she’s extremely selective and it can be a bit restricting – but she’s not actually upset about it.

After nearly 30 years of marriage and raising three children, Kelly revealed the key to their lasting relationship: “Love and intimacy,” she shared on an episode of Live! in 2021.

I was really fascinated to hear how Mark and Kelly handle stress in their relationship. It came out during a conversation on the show when Mark was filling in as a co-host, and they were talking about Scenes From a Marriage. They shared some really personal insights, and it felt like a genuine moment between them.

Kelly was commenting on the couple’s struggles they were watching, saying that this kind of situation would never happen in her own marriage to Mark Consuelos. She explained that Mark would immediately address any issues, saying he’d quickly step in to comfort or help anyone feeling upset, unwell, or overwhelmed. He always knows what they need. She added that Mark resolves everything with ‘love,’ and jokingly added ‘and sexy time,’ though Mark protested it wasn’t everything, Kelly clarified it was ‘almost everything.’

Kelly admits she’s not a fan of morning intimacy, telling the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in July 2025 that she finds it unpleasant. She’s made it clear to her husband, Mark, that their sex life needs to be balanced. “I told him, ‘We need to alternate – it can’t always be when you want it.'” she explained. “It feels like 90% of the time it’s your preference, and now that we work together daily, things need to be my way sometimes, which is only at night.” Luckily, their early morning work schedule on Live has naturally shifted their intimacy to later in the day, something Kelly considers a blessing.

Mark playfully teased Kelly after she shared a photo of herself wearing a sparkly rainbow sweatshirt. He jokingly questioned the letter on her shirt, which read “More Glitter, Less Twitter,” writing, “Is that a G or a C… asking for a friend?”

Kelly Clarkson jokingly reminisced about the fun she had conceiving her son Joaquin! After Mark posted a birthday message for Joaquin’s 18th birthday, Kelly replied, playfully suggesting that ‘making’ him was a great experience. She then revealed it happened during a trip to Montreal!

During a September 2022 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen playfully asked his friend Kelly if there were any places they hadn’t been intimate. Kelly readily admitted to having had encounters in a public restroom, on the set of their old show All My Children, and even on a boat – a fact Cohen jokingly pointed out happened right near his house. While Cohen teased that, judging by their public displays of affection, it’s hard to believe there are any places they haven’t, Kelly revealed a few locations remain off-limits: a car ride to an event, a department store dressing room, or the set of their talk show.

Okay, so Kelly is totally into looking her best, always. And can you believe the lengths she went to for Mark?! She was telling this story on her podcast, and it was insane. During the pandemic, she was in NYC for work and he was filming Riverdale way up in Vancouver, but they still found a way! She said they had these crazy, over-the-top intimate rituals. But the best part? She was so self-conscious on FaceTime, worried about how she looked, that she literally rigged up her laptop on a ladder! She wanted Mark to see her from a flattering angle and not have to witness the effects of gravity! It’s just…so Kelly, you know? She’s so extra and I’m living for it!

Kelly Ripa made a joke about the scandal involving former GMA3 co-hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, who had a romantic relationship that led to their departure from the show. She said that she and her husband, Mark Consuelos, are avoiding any similar issues now that he’s co-hosting with her on Live.

Appearing on Watch What Happens Live in April 2023, Kelly quipped that she and Mark had “taken a vow of chastity” while working together, referencing ABC’s disapproval of romantic relationships between on-screen colleagues. She jokingly promised there would be “no banging on the side.”

After their youngest son, Joaquin, went off to college in 2021, Kelly and her husband, Mark, adjusted to having an empty house. As Kelly explained to TopMob News in June 2023, they fell into a comfortable routine of moving freely around the house. However, things changed when their daughter, Lola, returned from London and they had to start locking up again. The same thing happened when Joaquin came home for the summer.

Things got even more interesting when Kelly’s parents came to stay with them in New York. The lack of privacy meant they had to find creative ways to have some alone time, as Kelly jokingly admitted.

When Lola returned home to finish college, she fell into the habit of entering her parents’ bedroom without knocking, which they wanted to stop. In typical Mark fashion, he playfully warned Lola about what she might find if she continued to walk in unannounced.

During a January 2023 episode of Live, Mark joked, “Be warned, Lola Consuelos. ‘Cause this week’s freaky week, isn’t it?” Kelly laughed and asked why this week was special, to which Mark replied with a smile, “It is now.”

The playful warning came after Mark had a conversation with Lola about her habit of entering their room without knocking. He explained that he told her, “Lola, I don’t want you to take this the wrong way. I’m very excited you’re home, we missed you, you’re the heart of this family, you’re so funny and fantastic. But you have to knock.”
