I’m so excited to hear Mark Harmon is coming back to NCIS! It’s been a while since we’ve seen his character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs. After he retired and moved to Alaska, he hasn’t been back, not even for big events like Ducky’s farewell or the show’s 1000th episode. This new episode sounds like it’s going to cover a lot of ground, spanning years of his life, and I can’t wait to see how they bring him back!
So far, Mark Harmon has only appeared in the pilot episode of NCIS: Origins, which he’s also helping to produce. While he made a brief appearance, the show didn’t reveal much about what he’s been doing in Alaska. It simply showed him thinking back to the beginning of his NCIS career.
Mark Harmon is returning to the NCIS universe! CBS has confirmed he’ll reprise his role as Gibbs in a special crossover event connecting NCIS: Origins season 2 with NCIS season 23. The two-hour episode will feature one continuous storyline, and producers David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal have hinted that it will reveal what Gibbs has been up to in Alaska.
Fans have been wondering what happened to Mark Harmon’s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, ever since he left for Alaska four years ago. We’re thrilled to announce that Mark will be returning to his role for a special episode as part of a larger NCIS event on November 11th. While we don’t want to reveal too much, we can say that Gibbs isn’t living in isolation anymore.
Harmon shared his enthusiasm about returning to play Gibbs in person, after briefly appearing in the pilot episode of NCIS: Origins.
As a long-time fan, I’ve been really impressed with the stories David and Gina are telling on ‘Origins.’ They’re not afraid to take risks and really explore what makes these characters tick. They even had a great idea for bringing Gibbs back, which I thought was perfect timing. Honestly, I’m excited for fans to see it – I think they’re going to love it!
The special crossover event, which was previously announced for Veterans Day (November 11th), is already highly anticipated. The appearance of Mark Harmon as Gibbs makes it a can’t-miss for longtime fans of the original NCIS, though his role is currently limited to season two of the prequel, NCIS: Origins. Also, on that day, NCIS and NCIS: Origins will swap timeslots to allow the crossover story to unfold.
The way the mystery at Camp Pendleton led to Alden Parker’s team at Navy Yard was a clever way to bring the different NCIS shows together – something the franchise hasn’t done in a long time. However, the biggest reveal is probably that Gibbs hasn’t been alone in Alaska for the past four years since his retirement. It makes you wonder if this new person in his life is someone from his past at MCRT.
The upcoming NCIS: Origins episode could ideally show Gibbs and Lala finding their way back to each other, despite the difficult future established in the prequel. However, revealing this connection too soon might be a mistake. CBS could diminish the compelling dynamic and tension between the two characters, which is a key part of the NCIS spinoff. At the very least, the episode will give fans an update on Gibbs and what he’s been up to.
