Mark Ruffalo & Hulk’s MCU Future Gets Major Update Following False Firing Rumor

Mark Ruffalo‘s Bruce Banner/The Hulk isn’t going anywhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The actor, known for playing the Incredible Hulk since his debut in the 2012 film The Avengers, recently responded to reports that Disney had removed him from future Marvel movies.

Mark Ruffalo’s future as the Hulk includes two major MCU movies

Mark Ruffalo is set to reprise his role as the Hulk in Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day this summer. Plus, according to insider Daniel Richtman, he’ll also be appearing as the Hulk in the movie Avengers: Secret Wars.

Filming for Secret Wars is expected to start around the middle of 2026 and take about six months. While the story is still largely a secret, Marvel has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will return as Doctor Doom, playing the main villain – a role he previously held in Avengers: Doomsday.

Recent reports about the next Spider-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe indicate that the Hulk might be a supporting villain for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, rather than the main one.

A reliable source, Twitter user @Majestic_ucm, claims that Jean Grey’s powers will cause Bruce Banner to transform into the Grey Hulk. This will then force Spider-Man and the Punisher to join forces and battle him.

Mark Ruffalo most recently played Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The show concluded with Banner revealing his son, Skaar, to his cousin Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk, a child conceived during the Hulk’s time on the planet Sakaar. Whether this storyline will be picked up in future Marvel projects like Brand New Day or Secret Wars remains unknown.

The next Spider-Man movie, titled Brand New Day, will be released on July 31, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to follow on December 17, 2027.
