Mark Ruffalo took over the role of Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2012’s The Avengers and has been a popular choice ever since. Despite never getting his own Hulk movie due to rights issues with Universal, he’s become a key part of the franchise through films like the Avengers series and Thor: Ragnarok. After a voice appearance in What If…?, Ruffalo hasn’t played Hulk in the MCU since She-Hulk in 2022. He’s scheduled to return this summer in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but beyond that, Hulk’s future is unclear, leading to speculation that Ruffalo might be leaving the role.
Mark Ruffalo recently responded to rumors that he had been fired from a project. While promoting his new movie, Crime 101, in an interview with The News Movement, Ruffalo said he wasn’t aware of any firing. “People keep asking if I got fired,” he explained, “but I haven’t heard anything about that.” Ruffalo’s Crime 101 co-stars, Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, also denied the rumors, calling them false and stating they would publicly support Ruffalo if they were true.
Mark Ruffalo said he’s happy to continue playing his character as long as Marvel wants him. He has a good working relationship with the studio and hinted that he might already be involved in future projects, saying he’s ‘around’ and open to possibilities.
Will Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk Be In Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars?

Had Mark Ruffalo been let go from his role, it would have been big news, just like what happened with James Gunn and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Since we haven’t seen any reports like that, fans can be confident he’s still involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This highlights how much unconfirmed information spreads online, so it’s best to be cautious and check the reliability of any claims you see.
Mark Ruffalo hasn’t officially said he’ll be in another Marvel movie, but his recent comments definitely suggest he might be. With production on Brand New Day finished, he could be referring to the upcoming Avengers films when he talks about potential projects. While he hasn’t been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel often keeps surprises hidden from fans. We saw this with Chris Evans – he wasn’t announced during the initial cast reveal for Doomsday, but he was featured prominently in the first trailer. Ultimately, we won’t know Marvel’s plans until the movie is released.
Despite the already complex storyline of Doomsday – juggling multiple superhero teams and introducing Doctor Doom – adding Hulk might be too much, even for the directors who successfully managed large casts in previous Marvel movies. It’s more likely Hulk will appear in Secret Wars, potentially with a more important part to play. There’s speculation that some major characters will die in Doomsday, and Hulk could step in to replace one of them. Since Tom Holland isn’t expected to be in Doomsday, the events of Brand New Day could be setting up the roles of Spider-Man and Hulk in Secret Wars.
It would be surprising if the Hulk didn’t fight alongside the Avengers against Doctor Doom. As one of the original Avengers who’s still actively involved, he’d be a huge asset – both for his incredible strength and Bruce Banner’s intelligence. While some characters might not appear in the upcoming Doomsday or Secret Wars movies, the Hulk seems like a likely participant, considering he’s a popular character and Marvel is focusing on established heroes to connect with fans. With the MCU heading towards a fresh start, this could also be a good opportunity to give Mark Ruffalo a satisfying conclusion to his role, allowing him to leave on his own terms.
