Mark Wahlberg’s Infinite Finds Redemption on Pluto Despite Abysmal Reviews

Mark Wahlberg’s sci-fi film Infinite, released in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, didn’t do well in theaters and received negative reviews. Despite this, it’s surprisingly become popular and is currently featured among the top 10 movies on Pluto TV.

According to FlixPatrol, Mark Wahlberg’s movie Infinite is currently the seventh most popular title on Pluto TV in the U.S. It’s unclear why the film is seeing a surge in popularity, but it may have been recently added to Pluto TV in January.

Every month, movies and shows are added to and removed from streaming services, which gives older, less-known titles a chance to be discovered by new viewers. This is often the case with films like Infinite – they frequently perform better on streaming platforms than they did in theaters.

Rotten Tomatoes Critics Rip Infinite Starring Mark Wahlberg

As a big movie fan, I remember when Mark Wahlberg’s Infinite came out in 2021, and honestly, it wasn’t well-received. Looking at Rotten Tomatoes, critics really didn’t like it – it only has a 17% score. Audiences were a little kinder, giving it a 34%, but it still wasn’t a hit. Basically, the Tomatometer reflects what critics think, and the Popcornmeter shows what regular moviegoers thought.

Critics found Infinite started promisingly as a sci-fi thriller but quickly became confusing and pointless. Audiences agreed, saying it’s only worth watching if you’re a big Mark Wahlberg fan or don’t mind slow parts between the action.

I recently checked out Infinite, and honestly, it’s a pretty middle-of-the-road film. It currently sits at a 5.5 out of 10 on IMDb, landing it around the 3,168th spot in their rankings. While it’s not terrible, I have to say Mark Wahlberg’s performance didn’t really leave a lasting impression – critics and audiences seem to agree on that.

Mark Wahlberg’s Infinite Compared Unfavorably to The Matrix

Antoine Fuqua’s film Infinite features Mark Wahlberg as Evan McCauley, a man who discovers his fragmented memories are actually recollections of past lives. He’s brought into a secret organization called the Infinites, who believe unlocking these memories is the key to preventing global catastrophe. When it was released, many viewers noted similarities between the film and The Matrix.

Despite being inspired by The Matrix, the movie Infinite didn’t capture what made that film great. Originally planned for a theatrical release, it was moved to Paramount+ during the pandemic in an attempt to attract more subscribers. However, it wasn’t successful in boosting subscriptions.

The film featured a talented cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sophie Cookson, Jason Mantzoukas, Rupert Friend, Toby Jones, Dylan O’Brien, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Liz Carr, Kae Alexander, Tom Hughes, Joana Ribeiro, Wallis Day, Lili Rich, Alicia Charles, Raffiella Chapman, and Mark Fleischmann.

Infinite is now streaming on Pluto TV.
