Martin Freeman’s acclaimed crime drama with Downton Abbey star is leaving Netflix very soon

The ITV crime drama, A Confession, will soon be removed from Netflix, so viewers have just a few weeks left to stream it.

I was completely gripped by this six-part series, which first came out in 2019. It tells the heartbreaking true story of Sian O’Callaghan, who disappeared in 2011 after simply going out for the evening. Jeff Pope wrote it, and it really stuck with me how powerfully it portrayed the events.

Martin Freeman, known for his role in *Sherlock*, plays Detective Steve Fulcher, a police officer based on a true story who was deeply committed to solving a case. Siobhan Finneran, from *Downton Abbey*, plays the mother of the victim, Elaine Pickford.

I’m really excited about the cast for this drama – alongside the fantastic Morgan Freeman and Eileen Finneran, they’ve got Imelda Staunton, Joe Absolom, Daniel Betts, and Charlie Cooper all involved. It’s shaping up to be a seriously talented group of actors!

The show ‘A Confession’ will no longer be available on Netflix after September 30, 2025. However, you can still watch it on ITVX, and it’s expected to stay there for the time being.

Honestly, the moment we saw Jeff’s cut, we were really pleased. It felt like a true portrait of Sian as a person, and crucially, it focused on *her*, not on the tragedy of her passing. It wasn’t about how her life ended, but about who she was.

I was really glad to see the show didn’t dwell on the more sensational aspects of the case. We – the team and I – didn’t want that to be the main focus, and it was a relief it didn’t go there. Instead, it was powerful to see Sian portrayed as a person, and it also thoughtfully addressed Steven Fulcher’s involvement and what he did. Overall, I thought it was a really well-done and sensitive piece of work.
