Marvel Already Forgot One Of The Best Weapons To Beat Doctor Doom In Avengers: Doomsday

There’s a powerful weapon currently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that would be incredibly useful against Doctor Doom. However, it likely won’t appear in the upcoming Avengers movie featuring Doom. Considering the story will involve the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Thunderbolts, Doctor Doom is expected to be a particularly formidable villain.

Given what we know, the heroes will probably pull out all the stops to defeat Doctor Doom, using every resource available to prevent him from achieving his plans. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has already shown us a wide range of powerful tools and allies – like the Stormbreaker weapon and Namor’s army – that could be used in this fight.

Despite having powerful options, some of the most effective strategies against him aren’t currently being used. For Marvel to utilize these, they’d need to return to a storyline they left behind six years ago.

The Ebony Blade Would Be A Great Weapon To Use Against Doctor Doom

At the end of the movie Eternals, Kit Harington’s character, Dane Whitman, obtained a dark sword called the Ebony Blade. This sword is famous in Marvel comics and is usually wielded by the same character as Dane. While the Ebony Blade is powerful, it’s also cursed, meaning using it comes with serious consequences. Despite this, it’s a weapon many desire, hinting at its incredible power and potential.

The Ebony Blade is a magically-made sword so powerful it can slice through nearly any substance. This has caught the attention of several Marvel characters, such as Knull, Malekith the Accursed, and Dracula, who have all taken an interest in it.

This item also possesses characteristics that might be useful for time travel or journeys across different universes. For example, in older Avengers comics, the Black Knight once performed a magical ritual to chase a sword through time.

Doom is hard to defeat, in part because of his magically protected armor. However, the Ebony Blade is believed to be able to bypass those defenses, break through his armor, and overcome any shields he puts up against the Avengers.

The Ebony Blade Is Available, But Unlikely To Appear In Avengers: Doomsday

With Dane Whitman now possessing the Ebony Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he could potentially join the Avengers as the Black Knight in a future film like Avengers: Doomsday. While it made sense for Dane to become the Black Knight and join the team, mirroring the comic books, it now seems unlikely. Marvel Studios largely moved away from the characters introduced in the 2020 film Eternals after it didn’t perform as well as hoped, making a similar path for Dane less probable.

Considering Black Knight and the Ebony Blade have a long and detailed history in Marvel comics, it’s a shame the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t fully utilized him as a dependable hero, especially with a major threat like Doctor Doom expected in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.

While it seems unlikely now, Marvel could potentially revisit Kit Harrington’s Black Knight and shift his story away from the Eternals in the future. Harrington has suggested this isn’t planned immediately, but it remains a possibility, perhaps after the next major Avengers film, currently referred to as Doomsday.
