Marvel Already Has the Perfect Pick for the MCU’s Next Spider-Man

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation as I ponder over the impending journey of Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For years, he relied on others to vanquish villains such as Mysterio and Vulture. However, in the upcoming movie “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, it seems that he’ll find himself without his trusted support system. The Punisher might play a significant role, but I suspect he won’t be able to provide the kind of aid that Iron Man or Doctor Strange did. In fact, there’s a chance he could become an impediment instead of an ally in the grand scheme of things.

In essence, Peter is poised to take center stage and become one of the defining characters within the MCU. Yet, this doesn’t imply that his story will last forever. He’s ready to prove his mettle as a self-reliant hero, and I can hardly wait to witness how it unfolds on the big screen!

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some major characters like Steve Rogers have handed over their roles to other heroes. Although Tom Holland’s Spider-Man isn’t planning to retire his red and blue suit anytime soon, it is inevitable that Marvel Studios will eventually need a new Spider-Man. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel, has recently ruled out one candidate for Peter Parker’s successor, but leaves the door open for another character to take up the mantle.

The MCU Isn’t Going to Touch Miles Morales for a While

Lately, Feige discussed with journalists about the future strategies of Marvel Studios concerning the MCU. He disclosed that fresh faces will be chosen to play the new X-Men and that ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will revolutionize the franchise. Additionally, they discussed the prospect of introducing Miles Morales into the MCU. Notably, Morales, another Spider-Man character, is at the center of Sony’s ‘Spider-Verse’ movies, with ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ scheduled for release in 2027. Although Marvel Studios has shown interest in incorporating Morales into their universe over the past few years, Feige’s statement that Sony advised him to keep his distance from the character for now raises questions about his potential involvement in live-action.

Sony aims to conclude its animated trilogy free from competition with Marvel Studios, considering Morales’ narrative is still unfinished, as shown at the end of “Spider-Man: Across the Universe,” where it’s revealed that he’s stranded in another universe and set to confront a version of himself who prefers causing crime instead of preventing it. It would be delightful to see Morales’ story reach its full potential on the big screen, but this might imply that Feige and his team are prepared to shift focus to another Spider-Man character if necessary. Luckily, an excellent alternative is already ready to debut in live-action, yet to make an appearance.

Ben Reilly Has What It Takes to Be the MCU’s Next Spider-Man

In “Spider-Verse” movies, multiple interpretations of Spider-Man have been presented, such as Ben Reilly, also known as the Scarlet Spider. Within the sequel “Across the Spider-Verse”, he’s a member of Miguel O’Hara’s Spider Society and is often brooding. Despite his tragic past, Reilly serves more as comic relief than anything else. A character named Miles Warren, fixated on Gwen Stacy, believes Spider-Man was responsible for her demise and starts producing clones of him. The most ordinary clone must face the hero and eventually realizes that he’s not the original. Afterward, he adopts the name Ben Reilly and embarks on a journey across the globe to uncover his destiny.

In a new twist, Ben assumes the role of the Scarlet Spider, stepping in temporarily when Peter takes a break. Despite his slightly somber demeanor compared to his counterpart, Ben proves himself to be an equally valiant hero, safeguarding the innocent and apprehending wrongdoers. When Tom Holland eventually hangs up the suit, the Marvel Cinematic Universe might find Ben’s character a welcome addition, and they can begin preparing for Reilly right away. Interestingly, Frank Castle’s initial comic book appearance coincides with a Spider-Man issue where Warren, known as the Jackal, serves as the antagonist. If Peter and the Punisher join forces to thwart this nefarious scientist, they may discover that he is producing clones resembling Spider-Man. Ben could be one of these clones, eagerly absorbing knowledge from the original Wall-Crawler until it’s his turn to don the suit.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
