Marvel Cancels Solo Movie Announced in 2019 With a Twist – Report

There’s surprising news about the upcoming Marvel movie starring Mahershala Ali as Blade. According to a source familiar with the studio, the film – first announced back in 2019 – has been canceled after facing numerous development challenges. However, Marvel reportedly still intends to include the Blade character in a future team-up movie.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade Solo movie not happening, but Midnight Sons is

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, the planned solo movie starring Mahershala Ali as Blade has been canceled. He revealed this information on the latest episode of The Hot Mic podcast, much to the surprise of host Rocha.

Still stunned, Rocha pressed Sneider to clarify if his statement was official, based on inside information, or simply a rumor. Sneider confirmed it was just a rumor, but then shared that a film featuring Ali’s Blade was being planned as part of a Midnight Sons movie.

I’ve heard that Blade won’t be getting his own movie right away. Instead, he’ll first appear as part of a team-up film called ‘Midnight Sons,’ and that’s where the story will begin for him.

While Marvel hasn’t officially announced a Midnight Sons movie yet, they’ve been laying the groundwork by introducing the team’s key members in various projects. We’ve already seen Blade make a brief voice appearance in the post-credits scene of the movie Eternals, and another version of the character, Blade Knight (voiced by Todd Williams), showed up in Marvel Zombies.

Doctor Strange first appeared in his own movie in 2016 and later had significant roles in the films Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Moon Knight was introduced in a 2022 Disney+ series. Additionally, characters like Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, and Elsa Bloodstone were featured in the 2022 special presentation, Werewolf by Night.

I was so excited to see Wesley Snipes back as Blade in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer! Even though we haven’t seen Mahershala Ali take on the role yet, it was a huge surprise and a great nod to Snipes’ original run as Blade in the movies from 1998 to 2004.

It’s currently unknown whether Wesley Snipes’ vampire hunter character will appear in upcoming Marvel films, such as Avengers: Secret Wars.
