The History of Mechagodzilla, Explained
Mechagodzilla first appeared in the 1974 film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Originally built by the Simeon species from Black Hole Planet 3, it was intended to conquer Earth. However, the Simeons lost their home world to a disaster, and Mechagodzilla was defeated in its first battle. Despite this, the mechanical monster has repeatedly returned in various films, including The Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975), Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021).
Throughout its history, Godzilla has represented humanity’s efforts to defend itself from giant monsters. Each new version of the character explores different ideas about where it came from and what it wants. These changes even happen within a single movie – for example, in Godzilla vs. Kong, Mechagodzilla switches sides during the fight due to the influence of Ghidorah.
Fans are anxiously awaiting the final issue of Godzilla: Infinity Roar #5. The creator recently shared excitement about the series, saying Godzilla is a surprisingly easy star to work with. They also hinted that the upcoming issue will feature a massive and dangerous crossover, putting the Marvel Universe in greater danger than ever before – promising an epic conclusion ‘in space’!
Godzilla: Infinity Roar #4 from Marvel Comics is on sale now.
