As a dedicated film enthusiast, I’ve been closely following the buzz around Marvel’s upcoming project, Ironheart. However, it seems the whispers from within Marvel’s ranks are growing louder, labeling this production as their biggest misstep yet. The mounting evidence only serves to strengthen this claim, leaving me with a sense of trepidation about this highly anticipated release.
Because it wasn’t worth it.
Ironheart went through almost a dozen re-edits and sat on the shelf for 2 1/2 years.
People within Marvel consider it the worst thing they have ever made.

The Disney+ series, after struggling for nearly three years and seemingly never quite making it to the finish line, may have been flawed from its inception. In a widely shared post on X, Nerdrotic stated, “Ironheart underwent close to a dozen revisions and was left untouched for 2 1/2 years. Those within Marvel view it as their most regrettable production.

The actor Anthony Ramos, who stars in Ironheart, has confirmed that the show was filmed approximately three years ago, which implies production occurred around mid-to-late 2021 or early 2022. This significant delay in release, with the series finally premiering in 2025, has fanned rumors suggesting Marvel may have doubted the project’s potential success entirely.
Re-Edits, Reshoots, and Rotten Ratings
According to Nerdrotic, it appears that the show underwent an unusual number of re-edits, hinting at an uncommon level of production disorder for a studio as resourceful as Marvel. This extensive re-editing led to a fragmented, aimless series, which even struggled to captivate die-hard Marvel fans.

The new series from Disney was largely unpublicized, with minimal marketing efforts made for press coverage, merchandise tie-ins, or fan gatherings. Unlike previous Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, there was no gradual hype or anticipation leading up to its release. Instead, the series was suddenly dropped in three-episode installments on Disney+ over a two-week span, as if Marvel intended for it to slip under the radar.
Will Ironheart Return?
Regardless of Ironheart’s initial setbacks, it seems Marvel intends to incorporate certain Ironheart characters into Avengers: Doomsday, based on Nerdrotic reports. Although an official announcement is yet to be made, Nerdrotic hinted in a later tweet that these characters will feature in the joint film. Specifically, he alluded to the criminal organization that Riri Williams collaborated with throughout the series.

In a recent interview, actress Dominique Thorne, famously known as Ironheart, remained secretive regarding her potential appearance in the upcoming film Doomsday.
It’s worth mentioning that Nerdrotic’s predictions about John Bernthal’s Punisher being part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which was later verified by industry publications, lends credibility to any insider information he shares about Marvel Cinematic Universe events.

One possibility is that Marvel might aim to seamlessly incorporate Ironheart into their wider narrative, keeping a low profile to avoid highlighting any potential issues with its performance – maybe providing some of the cast with a subtle reset. However, if audiences continue to show little interest in these characters, they could just as swiftly be phased out, much like their initial introduction.
Even Downey Couldn’t Save It
In a final effort to drum up enthusiasm, Robert Downey Jr. made an appearance on Good Morning America via a pre-recorded message, offering support to Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos while they were filming Avengers: Doomsday in the UK. This move was designed to connect Ironheart with the MCU’s golden age, but it sparked more bewilderment than anticipation among fans.

The level of interaction with the online content was quite low, and it seems that the number of viewers for this Marvel series on Disney+ is relatively small compared to most other shows in the same platform, based on Luminate’s viewing statistics.
Some experts are also contemplating that Downey’s involvement in the series might inadvertently harm “Avengers: Doomsday,” drawing it into the same critical discussions currently centered around “Ironheart.
A Franchise in Trouble
Nerdrotic’s assertion mirrors a common feeling within Marvel; it’s evident following the show’s premiere that Ironheart didn’t achieve the level of success Marvel anticipated. The series encountered delays, underwent revisions, received minimal audience attention, and there are rumors suggesting it may have been canceled permanently.

If the studio intends to preserve the core essence of the show for the upcoming Avengers movie, it’s reasonable for fans to wonder – what’s the reason behind this decision?
