I’m really disappointed with how Marvel is handling She-Hulk. They introduced Jennifer Walters, who gets her powers from Bruce Banner, and the Disney+ show that came out in 2022 was just… controversial, to say the least. Honestly, it’s left me wondering what the future holds for her in the MCU, and I’m not sure it’s looking good. It feels like another misstep with a character who could be so great.
It’s been four years since She-Hulk first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the character hasn’t been seen since. Tatiana Maslany, who played She-Hulk, doesn’t seem likely to reprise the role anytime soon and has even given her approval for Marvel to recast. Though She-Hulk isn’t one of Marvel’s most popular heroes, Maslany leaving hints that Marvel may not fully understand what made the show successful in the first place.
Tatiana Maslany Is the Best Part About the MCU’s She-Hulk
Despite some issues with the script and occasionally underwhelming special effects, Tatiana Maslany delivers a captivating performance as Jennifer Walters. She truly shines in this Disney+ series, proving once again that Marvel Studios consistently excels at casting the right actors for their roles.
At its core, She-Hulk is about a young woman discovering who she is after a life-altering event. Once she transforms, she starts to question whether people prefer the superhero version of herself to the real her. This leads her on a journey of self-discovery, learning to embrace both her She-Hulk persona and her human side equally.
Tatiana Maslany brilliantly portrays both Jennifer Walters and her alter ego, She-Hulk. As Jennifer, she’s relatable, funny, and instantly likable – one of the most charming heroes the MCU has seen in a while. And as She-Hulk, Maslany delivers a powerful performance, establishing the character as a strong and promising hero for future stories. It’s clear Jennifer Walters is poised to become a major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Tatiana Maslany leaving Marvel is a significant loss, and it’s largely the studio’s doing. If Marvel had better supported Maslany when She-Hulk faced criticism, she might have been open to continuing with the franchise. It’s been a long time without any discussion of bringing the character back, and after all this time, it’s understandable that Maslany wants to pursue other opportunities. However, the She-Hulk character will ultimately be weakened by her departure.
Could She-Hulk Ever Return to the MCU?
Just because Tatiana Maslany hasn’t confirmed anything doesn’t mean she won’t be in future Marvel projects. Actors sometimes downplay or hide their roles, and she could be doing the same to keep surprises about She-Hulk‘s story under wraps.
Fans are speculating that She-Hulk might show up in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday event. The movie will bring together a huge number of Marvel heroes, some of whom haven’t been officially revealed yet. While no Hulk characters have been confirmed for Doomsday so far, Jennifer Walters could potentially take on the role of the team’s Hulk.
If not sooner, She-Hulk could reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the 2027 film Avengers: Secret Wars. This movie is predicted to be a huge crossover event, bringing together characters from different Marvel universes to fight a shared threat. It’s likely that most MCU heroes will be involved in Secret Wars, which would be a natural way to bring Tatiana Maslany back as She-Hulk.
Even if Tatiana Maslany is done playing She-Hulk, the character herself isn’t necessarily leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Hulk has been played by different actors before, and She-Hulk could easily be recast. While it would be a shame to lose Maslany, Marvel could readily introduce a new actress to take on the role and continue the character’s story.
After a somewhat disappointing start in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022, the future of She-Hulk is unclear. Sadly, a key element that fans enjoyed may not be included if the show comes back for another season—and it’s not even certain if it will.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is available to stream on Disney+.
