An adored character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has recently discovered a hidden ability, shocking fans everywhere. Determining the strength of various heroes in the MCU can be a daunting task, considering titans such as Thor and Loki, not to mention heavyweights like Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel, and more. The roster is vast, and that’s only scratching the surface, especially when you consider newcomers who made their entrance during Phases Four and Five. However, whenever a character starts demonstrating an unseen ability, it’s crucial to stay attentive.
WARNING: Spoilers for Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Sixteen #1 below.
Spider-Man and the Sinister Sixteen #1″
This issue is penned by J. Michael Straczynski, illustrated by Phil Noto, and lettered by VC’s Ariana Maher. The story unfolds as Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson prepare for a private dinner at an exclusive French restaurant. However, their romantic evening takes an unexpected turn when Thor and She-Hulk arrive, also having secured a table. As the couples settle in, it becomes apparent that both parties have reserved tables, setting the stage for an interesting dynamic as Peter tries to conceal his identity as Spider-Man from She-Hulk while maintaining a semblance of normalcy.
Upon seating myself and my companion, an unusual series of events unfolded… Superheroes and villains started pouring in, from Doctor Strange and Clea to Doctor Octopus Loki, Magneto, Black Bolt and Medusa, The Leader, Mystique and Destiny, Squirrel Girl, Kingpin and Typhoid Mary, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, among others. It appeared the restaurant proprietor was in dire financial straits, hoping for a superhero brawl that would wreck his establishment so he could claim insurance money. And lo and behold, a battle ensued, reducing the restaurant to rubble. The climax unveiled a new power of a Marvel Cinematic Universe hero.
She-Hulk Can Hear a Moth Sneeze With Her Super Hearing
Chef Renaud and his girlfriend try to provoke a confrontation between the heroes and villains, such as knocking over a glass of wine onto Kingpin, but the patrons just want an ordinary evening out at dinner, so they’re behaving themselves. Doctor Strange goes back in time to undo the spilled wine on Kingpin, with everyone cheering. However, with so many explosive elements crammed into one room, a fireworks display is inevitable.
When Eddie Brock unintentionally spits his food while watching funny cat videos on his phone, causing it to hit another diner, a brawl erupts. The scene becomes every person for themselves, leaving Bistro Du Jardin in ruins. This was exactly what Chef Renaud had envisioned, except for one significant issue: She-Hulk heard Chef Renaud’s conversation about inciting fights between heroes and villains.
Beyond her increased power in strength, agility, and recuperation, She-Hulk boasts exceptional hearing abilities too, especially in quiet environments such as restaurants. On a favorable day, she can even catch the sound of a moth sneezing! However, during a recent visit to Chef Renaud’s restaurant, though She-Hulk heard him discussing the destruction of the place, she chose not to act on it to avoid repeating the chaos they had just experienced. As a representative of the court, she is obligated to share this knowledge with the police.
Chef Renaud’s girlfriend is quite smart, as she has proof that the idea wasn’t hers. She produced a recording where Chef Renaud took credit for the plan himself. She’s looking to negotiate a deal and needs She-Hulk’s assistance.
In the “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” series on Disney+, Tatiana Maslany portrays Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk. This series premiered in 2022 to mixed opinions and seems likely to not receive a second season among the numerous Marvel shows of this period. Additionally, there were production issues with the visual effects artists being overworked due to She-Hulk’s CGI nature, leading to excessive overtime for the creative team. There were whispers that She-Hulk might appear in “Captain America: Brave New World,” but this never materialized. At present, it’s unclear when She-Hulk will reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
When She-Hulk reappears, it would be prudent for Marvel to make use of her concealed ability to hear superbly.
