Marvel Just Introduced the Perfect Villain for Spider-Man 5 (& It Doesn’t Even Know It Yet)

It’s surprising, but the upcoming Spider-Man movie isn’t getting much attention right now. Everyone is focused on Avengers: Doomsday, eagerly anticipating the first team-up of the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four in 2026. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still working to gain traction, and it’s assembled a strong cast, including Mark Ruffalo returning as Bruce Banner. However, the buzz around Ruffalo is being overshadowed by the addition of another intriguing character.

Jon Bernthal is returning as the Punisher after first appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Daredevil: Born Again. He’ll have a special on Disney+ and will finally play the character in a movie, titled Brand New Day. While some fans believe Daredevil would be a better fit for a street-level hero role – especially since he helped Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home – Marvel should hold off on a Daredevil/Spider-Man team-up until the next Spider-Man film. A compelling villain is emerging who would be perfect for that story.

Daredevil Is About to Face a New Foe in Marvel Comics

As a longtime Marvel fan, I’ve noticed something the comics do that the movies haven’t yet: they regularly refresh things! It’s smart, really. Comics have been going for so long that it can be intimidating for new readers to jump in with decades of backstory. So, they hit the reset button sometimes to make it easier for everyone. That’s what’s happening with Daredevil in 2026 – a whole new take on the character led by Stephanie Phillips and Lee Garbett! We’ll definitely see some classic villains like Kingpin, Bullseye, and Elektra, but surprisingly, they aren’t the main threat this time. A new villain named Omen is taking center stage, and I’m really excited to see what they bring to the table.

Marvel isn’t revealing much about the new villain, Omen, keeping details about his look and background secret. What they have said is that Omen has a history connected to Daredevil. Instead of directly attacking Daredevil (Matt Murdock), Omen will focus on ruining his reputation as a superhero. This approach feels innovative and exciting, not just for Daredevil stories, but for comics in general. It’s the kind of character the Marvel Cinematic Universe should keep an eye on – Omen sounds like a great addition when the time is right for an adaptation.

Spider-Man 5 Needs to Take Peter Parker to Unfamiliar Territory

Everything suggests the upcoming Brand New Day movie will feature a villain Spider-Man hasn’t faced as the main antagonist in a film yet. While characters like Chameleon, Tombstone, Mister Negative, and Silver Samurai are likely to appear, they don’t feel like the primary threat. It seems more probable that one or more of them will control the Hulk, making him the movie’s big villain. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has used this storyline repeatedly, and while it could work again, it would be better to try a fresh approach that isn’t based on past events.

If Matt Murdock (Daredevil) appears in the next Spider-Man movie, it would be great to see him bring Omen along. Perhaps Daredevil contacts his friend Peter Parker because he’s facing a challenge in Hell’s Kitchen that he can’t manage alone. This could lead to Omen becoming a new enemy for Spider-Man, creating a rivalry not found in the original comics. This approach aligns with the current direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Spider-Man, where Peter is largely independent and his enemies can’t target his personal life.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
