The oldest recorded Sorcerer Supreme is Agamotto the All-Knowing, a mythical sorcerer who was part of the Avengers 1 million years ago. Many well-known historical figures have also assumed this role, such as Merlin from King Arthur’s court and Sir Isaac Newton. Yao The Ancient One was another Sorcerer Supreme, passing the title to Doctor Strange upon his ascension. Despite Doctor Strange consistently demonstrating his worthiness for the position, there have been instances where the title was seized or transferred to someone else.

After learning from Agatha Harkness, Wanda has honed her skills to such a degree that she can free herself from Chthon’s control and even vanquish him—an accomplishment that once required the collective might of all Earth’s sorcerers.

The limitless reservoir of power granted by chaos magic allows Wanda to effortlessly and frequently access it. She’s utilized this potent ability for a variety of feats such as giving birth to her and Vision’s offspring, resurrecting the undead in Genosha, and reshaping reality entirely during the “House of M” incident. Frequently facing adversaries like Chthon and the Griever at the End of All Things – entities that the Sorcerer Supreme typically confronts to safeguard Earth – Wanda is a strong contender for the title. Given Doctor Doom’s imminent loss of the title, Stephen Strange’s potential introspection following his battle with Doom, and Wanda’s current struggle against an entity beyond death to protect Earth, it would be fitting for her to assume this position now.
