Captain America and the Red Skull have battled many times, but this time, things are different. Throughout his career, Steve Rogers has fought some of the Marvel Universe’s most dangerous and ambitious villains. But the Red Skull stands out as Captain America’s greatest foe. He represents everything Rogers despises, and Johann Schmidt will stop at nothing to destroy Captain America.
A great example of an unexpected team-up is the story of Alien vs. Captain America. While not part of the official Marvel storyline, it showcases one of Red Skull’s most outlandish schemes for taking over the world. Hydra has discovered the Xenomorphs from the Alien movies and is turning them into weapons against their enemies. Captain America and his Howling Commandos are barely surviving, relying on help from Captain Marvel and the Kree. Little do they know, even greater dangers lie ahead, and Red Skull will stop at nothing to achieve his twisted goals.
Red Skull Merges with the Alien Queen in Horrifying New Fusion

In Alien vs. Captain America #3, written by Frank Tieri with art by Stefano Raffaele, Neeraj Menon, and Clayton Cowles, Captain Marvel explains what he knows about the Xenomorphs. He reveals that during the Kree/Skrull war, a Kree patrol discovered a Skrull warship that appeared deserted. However, they soon found the Skrull crew had been attacked by Xenomorphs in their initial ‘Facehugger’ stage. The resulting Xenomorphs killed the Kree soldiers. Worse, the Skrulls’ ability to shapeshift allowed the Xenomorphs – disguised as Kree – to infiltrate and attack the Kree homeworld. This led Captain Marvel to launch a universe-wide campaign to destroy all Xenomorphs, which ultimately brought him to Earth.
Following the burial of the Howling Commandos, Captain America, Bucky, and Nick Fury strategize about how to deal with the Kree and the ongoing Xenomorph threat. They learn the Kree possess technology to track the Xenomorphs, but discover the creatures are rapidly approaching. As Hydra releases a wave of Xenomorphs against Allied troops, Captain America and his team arrive just in time to intervene. Baron Strucker observes from afar, but is soon captured by Fury and Yon-Rogg, who then question him about Hydra’s intentions with the Xenomorphs.
With the battle over and Captain America’s team victorious, something still doesn’t feel right to Marvel – the Xenomorphs were acting unusually coordinated. It’s soon revealed this was a deliberate tactic. Fury explains that the attack was a diversion for Red Skull’s real scheme, called Operation Red King. Red Skull is planning a massive assault on Normandy using an army of Xenomorphs. The reason for their obedience? He’s merged with the Alien Queen, becoming a terrifying creature with the full power of a top-level Xenomorph.
Red Skull Has Never Been More Dangerous Than Now

Captain America is physically stronger, but Red Skull has always been a dangerous enemy. Schmidt is a gifted strategist who built armies fueled by hatred during World War II, and he’s often had the powerful Cosmic Cube. However, none of that has ever been enough to defeat Captain America. That’s all changed now, though, because Schmidt has merged with one of the most formidable creatures from the Alien universe.
Beyond the terrifying physical transformation Schmidt has undergone, this is a critical situation. Xenomorph Queens are significantly more powerful than regular Xenomorphs – they’re much tougher, able to survive bullets and extreme heat. They’re also faster and stronger. Add to that their deadly corrosive acid, and combine it with the cunning and malice of the Red Skull, and you have a weapon capable of changing the course of history to benefit Hydra.
The story Alien vs. Captain America isn’t part of the official Marvel continuity, but even though I don’t expect all the heroes to die, I predict some characters won’t make it. If Red Skull, even in his new, monstrous form, retains his intelligence, Captain America, Bucky, and the others will face a difficult fight. While the Queens can be defeated, Schmidt isn’t a simple brute. He’s a cunning villain who’s sacrificed his humanity for power, and Captain America needs to be extremely careful going into his last confrontation.
