Marvel movies legend tipped to join The Batman Part II in major role alongside Avengers’ Scarlett Johansson – but who is he playing?

Good news for fans of The Batman! After a long wait, development on the sequel is really moving forward, and it seems another talented actor may be joining the cast.

Scarlett Johansson is already confirmed for a role in the project, and now sources say Marvel star Sebastian Stan is also joining the cast in a significant part.

Deadline reports that Sebastian Stan, known for playing Bucky Barnes, is being considered for a role in the upcoming Batman sequel. The film is bringing back several key actors, including Robert Pattinson as Batman, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.

It hasn’t been officially announced who Stanley will play, but there’s a strong rumor he’s being considered for the role of Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face. This character has been portrayed in movies by several actors, including Billy Dee Williams, Tommy Lee Jones, Aaron Eckhart, and most recently, Harry Lawtey.

I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz online, especially from Hollywood reporter Jeff Sneider on X, about Stanley Tucci potentially taking on the role of Two-Face. It’s exciting, but it’s important to remember it’s still just a rumor – nothing is confirmed yet.

Sneider previously shared on TheInSneider.com that Dent, his wife, and his father were expected to have significant roles in the story. Johansson was rumored to be cast as Mrs. Dent, and Brad Pitt was reportedly offered, but declined, the part of Harvey’s father. However, none of these reports have been officially confirmed yet.

Though Stan is still famous for playing his Marvel Cinematic Universe role – a part he’ll return to in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday – he’s recently been praised for his work in independent films. This includes a particularly strong performance in the art-house film A Different Man and an Academy Award-nominated portrayal of Donald Trump in The Apprentice.

He’s currently developing several other films with notable directors, such as Cristian Mungiu’s Fjord, which will feature Renate Reinsve (known for Sentimental Value), and Burning Rainbow Farm directed by Justin Kurzel and starring Leo Woodall.

The sequel to The Batman, currently titled The Batman II, is planned to start filming in spring 2026. The first film, which received positive reviews, came out in March 2022, and the new movie is expected to be released in October 2027.

James Gunn, a co-CEO at DC Studios, previously explained the delay between films by saying that Matt Reeves is dedicated to creating the highest quality movie possible.

It’s impossible to predict how long writing a script will take, he explained on Threads. But generally, after a script is finished, it usually takes about two years to make a big film – including pre-production, filming, and editing.

As soon as we hear any more concrete updates on the film’s production timeline, we’ll let you know.
