As a huge MCU fan, I’m keeping tabs on everything Marvel’s planning, and it’s a lot! Everyone’s excited about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to hit theaters July 31, 2026, but there’s so much more coming. We also have confirmed dates for the next two Avengers films: Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars a little over a year later on December 17, 2027. While details are still under wraps for many projects, it’s clear Marvel has a packed schedule!
Beyond the three previously announced dates, Marvel Studios has five more confirmed release dates following Secret Wars, though the projects for those dates haven’t been revealed yet. These dates are May 5, 2028; July 28, 2028; December 15, 2028; May 4, 2029; and July 13, 2029. While Deadpool 4 is reportedly in development, and rumors suggest a new X-Men movie is possible, a few projects seem more likely to be released in 2028 and 2029. Unfortunately, the Blade reboot isn’t currently planned for those dates.
May 5, 2028

Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther, has said Black Panther 3 is planned for release in 2028. While May 5th was a possibility, it’s likely the film will come out on one of the other available dates that year. Many believe Black Panther 3 should be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film after Secret Wars. Because Secret Wars is expected to be a fresh start for the MCU, launching this new phase with a continuation of the popular Black Panther series would be a smart decision.
Marvel would likely benefit from releasing the third Black Panther movie sooner rather than later. If it came out in May 2028, it would be almost six years after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever debuted in November 2022 – a significantly longer wait than the four years between the first film and Wakanda Forever. Plus, there’s still a lot of story to explore, especially considering the surprising reveal at the end of Wakanda Forever about King T’Challa’s son, who is likely to carry on the Black Panther legacy.
July 28, 2028

It’s surprising that Marvel hasn’t officially announced Doctor Strange 3, even though rumors about the movie have been circulating since 2023, or even before. Similar to Black Panther 3, the last Doctor Strange film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was released in 2022. If Doctor Strange 3 were scheduled for Marvel’s next available date – July 28, 2028 – it would be six years after Multiverse of Madness, the same gap that existed between the first Doctor Strange movie and its sequel. Doctor Strange fans had previously felt that six-year wait was too long.
The mixed reaction to Multiverse of Madness is likely influencing Marvel’s current plans, as that film received a lot of criticism. Some viewers felt the movie focused too much on Wanda Maximoff instead of Doctor Strange, while others disliked how Wanda’s character was portrayed and the outcome of her story. There was also a lot of discussion about how the movie presented the multiverse. Despite this, fans are clearly excited for the next Doctor Strange film, and it’s quite possible it will claim the second release slot in 2028.

Many fans consider Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to be one of the most overlooked movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and its release timing likely played a role. It came out in 2021, right after the huge success of Avengers: Endgame—a film widely considered a high point for the MCU and a massive conclusion to a major story arc. This left audiences wondering what direction the franchise would take next. Plus, Shang-Chi was the first movie released after Endgame that didn’t feature a well-known Avenger, as Spider-Man: Far From Home came out in 2019 and Black Widow also debuted in 2021.
Despite facing many challenges, the first Shang-Chi movie is still considered one of the best Marvel films since Endgame, and a sequel is definitely warranted. Fortunately, Shang-Chi 2 was announced a while ago, but we haven’t heard much about it recently. After waiting for years with very little news, it would be logical for the sequel to be included in the upcoming release schedule, ideally in 2028 rather than 2029. Plus, Simu Liu is set to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in Doomsday, proving he’s still a key character.
May 4, 2029

It’s not unexpected that a second Fantastic Four movie is in the works, with development starting last summer. Given the impressive cast and the fresh take on the characters in First Steps, another film seemed likely. While the Fantastic Four will appear in Doomsday, Marvel is almost certainly planning a dedicated movie to further explore their story.
There’s been talk of Fantastic Four 2 potentially hitting theaters in December 2028, and that’s still likely. However, releasing it on May 4, 2029 – known as ‘Star Wars Day’ or ‘May the Fourth’ – would be a fun nod to Pedro Pascal’s role in both First Steps and the Star Wars series The Mandalorian and its upcoming sequel, The Mandalorian and Grogu. What better day to launch his next Marvel movie?
July 13, 2029

Currently, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s last confirmed release date is July 13, 2029. While that’s still quite a ways off, it would be a good time to release Thor 5, especially since Chris Hemsworth has hinted that a fifth movie is being developed. Some people may think we’ve had enough Thor films and the MCU should focus on other heroes, but another Thor movie would likely be a big success in theaters.
Similar to how Wakanda Forever ended, the latest Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, hints at what’s coming next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thor now has a powerful adopted daughter, Love, who is played by Chris Hemsworth’s actual daughter. It’s unclear if these upcoming five unannounced movies are the final plans, or if any of the rumors are true. However, these films are currently the most likely candidates to fill the MCU’s already scheduled release dates.
