One of the three fresh Marvel movies slated for release in 2025 was titled “Thunderbolts.” This film was a colossal team effort involving thousands, whose collective labor brought it to fruition. Similar to previous MCU blockbusters, this movie underwent numerous alterations during production. It’s intriguing to observe the evolution of these films, and recent preliminary sketches for The Void offer a more ominous glimpse into the villain’s terrifying visage. SPOILER ALERT: The following may contain sensitive information.
*Thunderbolts refers to the Marvel Comics team consisting of supervillains who have been rehabilitated or forced into service by authority figures.
The artwork showcasing The Void comes from the latest “The Art Of” book for Marvel’s Thunderbolts comic series, and will be available in stores next week. User X (@belovabolts) on Twitter posted a thread of images from the book after receiving it early, and was particularly enthusiastic to showcase an unconventional version of The Void that has a fiery red hue rather than simply appearing as a dark shadow. Here’s another instance:
Isn’t it fascinating how a character’s intended portrayal can evolve significantly throughout the creative process? For me, I find the simplicity of Bob transforming into a shadow in the final cut more appealing than these concept artworks. However, they depict a much more intimidating version of the character, which would have been intriguing to witness on screen. Fans raise a valid point that this interpretation of The Void bears a striking resemblance to Vecna from Stranger Things, and maybe that’s why Marvel opted for a different direction in the end.

This week, it was announced that “Thunderbolts” can now be streamed on Disney+. Previously, the ending made its team of unconventional vigilantes official Avengers members. The actors will reprise their roles when the movie “Avengers: Doomsday” is released in December 2026, marking their return to the series.
