As a longtime Marvel fanatic with a heart full of nostalgia for the comic book world, I can hardly contain my excitement as we inch closer to the launch of Marvel Rivals! With the recent unveiling of the game’s roadmap, it seems that our beloved heroes are about to embark on an epic new journey, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
Players of Marvel Rivals can now see the path ahead as they eagerly anticipate the release of the new Marvel game. This roadmap provides details not only for the game’s debut, but also for future updates. As Marvel Rivals is essentially a hero-shooter set within a superhero narrative, it’s no surprise that players are most excited about the introduction of new characters. In line with this anticipation, the developers have shared their plans regarding launch heroes and those who will join the game once the seasonal system is fully operational.
As a die-hard Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to share that currently, I’m well aware of 27 characters guaranteed to appear in Marvel Rivals! These include the likes of Adam Warlock, Black Panther, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Groot, Hela, Hulk, Iron Man, Jeff the Land Shark (who was quite a shock), Loki, Luna Snow, Magik, Magneto, Mantis, Moon Knight, Namor, Peni Parker, Psylocke, Rocket Raccoon, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Storm, The Punisher, Thor, Venom, and Winter Soldier. However, the roadmap for Marvel Rivals has confirmed that the game will launch with 33 heroes, leaving us six more to look forward to in the final weeks leading up to release!
Regarding the identity of these potential heroes, it’s not definitive yet, but rumors hint towards certain members from the Fantastic Four and also some characters who are likely to be included, such as Wolverine. Interestingly, Deadpool seems to be absent at the game’s launch despite his popularity this year, but if he isn’t ready for the initial release, it won’t be long before he joins the roster.
Regarding the last character in the 33-strong roster, the creative director of Marvel Rivals, Guangguang, hinted at some exclusive details about this hero. It seems they’ll have a powerful Team-Up skill compatible with the Hulk, which means we can speculate about potential candidates for this mystery character if you consider individuals who would synergize well with the Hulk.

Guangguang mentioned that as we approach the finish line with our roster of 33 heroes, the last hero yet to be unveiled will certainly spark enthusiasm, particularly because of their synergy with the Hulk through their Team-Up Ability. So, don’t forget to stay tuned for this exhilarating reveal!
Initially, it appears that only these 33 characters will be available when Marvel Rivals launches, with no additional surprises at launch except for the 33rd character who seems quite intriguing. However, from January onwards, we’ll witness Season 1 of Marvel Rivals content (December is considered a pre-season or “Season 0”). Guangguang hints that new characters will be introduced in seasonal updates. At least one new hero is expected in January, but the pace after that remains uncertain. It’s possible to anticipate a new character every three months given Marvel Rivals’ extensive roster of characters to draw from. However, some seasons may choose not to introduce heroes, similar to what games like Apex Legends and others in live-service do.
