The forthcoming major update for Marvel Rivals by NetEase Games is approaching, as developers have shared details about Season 4, which they discussed in a trailer on Wednesday.
In the Season 4 trailer for Marvel Rivals, Matt Murdock, a blind attorney and crime fighter known as Daredevil, engages in combat with Angela, the daughter of Odin.
Both of these characters are being added with the new season, which kicks off on Sept. 12, 2025.
A new Vanguard joins the fray
In the latest duo addition to the game, Angela joins the roster as the first new tank since Emma Frost in Season 2. She wields the Ichors, transforming them into various weapons and taking flight with her wings. Interestingly, she teams up with her brother Thor, who can now throw a spear and teleport to the target location, dealing damage. Excitingly, Thor is also set to receive an upgrade this season, with specific enhancements planned for his Ultimate ability.
Other character balance adjustments include slight reductions in power for Loki and Luna Snow, while Sue Storm and Doctor Strange are set to become stronger. For those who loved the summer swimsuit skins released in July, get ready because wave two is coming on Sept 18, 2025, just after Season 4 starts.
Lastly, although it won’t be available this season, the developers have confirmed they are working on placement matches. This is excellent news for players finding it difficult to climb Ranked ladders due to seasonal resets causing overcrowding in similar skill level brackets.
Marvel Rivals is coming to PlayStation 4.. unfortunately

As a die-hard tech and gaming enthusiast, I must express my dismay upon learning that Marvel Rivals will be gracing the screens of PlayStation 4 on September 12. Don’t get me wrong; I understand the rationale behind such a move – expanding to another platform could potentially boost revenue due to the game being free-to-play. However, I can’t help but feel let down by this decision.
The reason for my concern is rooted in the advanced capabilities of Marvel Rivals that I fear won’t be fully realized on the PlayStation 4. Given that it leverages several high-end Unreal Engine 5 features and boasts a smooth performance of up to 120 FPS on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, I have serious doubts about how this version will perform on older hardware.
Additionally, the influx of Marvel Rivals players with outdated hard drives and antiquated CPUs may lead to longer match loading times, which is a significant drawback considering the game’s reputation for swift match searches. This move seems to be going against the tide, as numerous other game developers have phased out support for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this year.
The list of exceptions is growing thinner with each passing day – annual sports franchises have ceased production on these consoles, Genshin Impact’s PlayStation 4 version is winding down, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds support is ending on these platforms as well. There are still a few holdouts, such as Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 which will launch on last-generation systems this November, but the trend is clear.
I sincerely hope my apprehensions prove unfounded, but I can’t shake the feeling that players may not have an optimal experience with Marvel Rivals on PlayStation 4.
