Marvel Star May Have Spoiled Their Surprise MCU Return (& It’s the Perfect Time)

It’s quite unusual for an actor to be part of the Marvel Universe, as after securing a highly sought-after role, they might only get one project and then wait years for another opportunity. Simu Liu, who made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021, has been absent from live-action projects since then. However, he’s scheduled to reappear in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday, which is exciting news indeed! But that still leaves a five-year gap between roles. At least Liu can be certain of his employment, unlike some other Marvel actors who are stuck in limbo while the MCU ponders whether to revive older projects.

As a die-hard fan of Marvel’s Daredevil series, I was thrilled to see Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio back in action, reprising their iconic roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk respectively. Initially, they took a bit of a backseat, but the stage was eventually set for their return in the highly anticipated miniseries, “Daredevil: Born Again”. This series promises to bring together a host of familiar faces, including Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page. However, there are still a few talented actors like Elodie Yung, who played Elektra in Daredevil, eagerly waiting for their turn to join the action.

For a while now, there’s been talk that Elektra might make a comeback, but Marvel Studios hasn’t said anything definitive about it. However, it seems actress Elodie Yung hinted at returning to the role through her social media posts, suggesting she might be wielding her sai once more.

The caption on Yung’s Instagram post doesn’t directly refer to “Born Again,” a project currently being filmed in New York City. Yet, the inclusion of a purple devil emoji is significant. It seems Marvel Studios might be keeping Elktra’s return under wraps, allowing her actress to merely hint at her comeback instead of openly announcing it. If this is true, it could be beneficial news for Murdock, as he currently needs all the support he can get.

Elektra Could Make a Huge Difference in the War Against Wilson Fisk

At the close of Season 1 in “Born Again”, Daredevil steps back when Mayor Fisk orders his Anti-Vigilante Task Force to halt all vigilantism in New York City. Realizing he needs reinforcements, he summons some former allies such as Josie and a few disgruntled cops who are concerned about their city’s state. Nevertheless, this isn’t sufficient, so Jessica Jones, portrayed by Krysten Ritter, joins the fray too. However, unlike Elektra, Jones doesn’t share Murdock’s past history.

In a different turn of events, Elektra crosses paths with Murdock, guided by their mentor Stick. Their connection develops into a complex bond. Together, they join forces to battle the Hand, but tragically, Elektra succumbs after a brutal fight. However, death doesn’t keep her down for long as the Hand reanimates her, setting her against her previous lover. In the end, Daredevil manages to liberate her from this torment, and at the conclusion of The Defenders, she is entombed under debris.

Characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe have endured situations more perilous than buildings collapsing on them. For instance, Fisk manages to survive a gunshot wound to the face and quickly resumes causing chaos. It’s quite possible that Marvel Studios might reintroduce Elektra in Season 2 of “Born Again,” given the heightened interest in her character following Jennifer Garner’s portrayal in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Her integral role in Daredevil’s backstory means she won’t remain deceased indefinitely, and her frequent encounters with other significant Marvel figures in the comics further strengthens this argument.

Daredevil: Born Again is streaming on Disney+.
