Fans of the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars are concerned about a key actor’s availability. Mark Ruffalo, known for playing the Hulk, also frequently takes on high-quality TV and film roles. He recently starred in Task, a new crime thriller series on HBO created by Brad Ingelsby, who also made Mare of Easttown.
Following the success of its first season, Task is expected to return for a second season, with Mark Ruffalo reprising his role as FBI Agent Tom Brandis.

There’s currently no information about when filming will begin on the next season. However, the recent news does make people wonder how dedicated Mark Ruffalo is to his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ruffalo seems to be enjoying a strong creative partnership with director Jonathan Ingelsby, as they’ve been developing more stories together for their project, Task. Ingelsby has spoken about their positive working relationship, saying Ruffalo is a joy to work with and that they have many more ideas to explore together.
Does Ruffalo’s Task Season 2 Role Affect Avengers: Secret Wars?
Marvel Studios is counting on Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) to revitalize the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since Avengers: Endgame in 2019, fan enthusiasm for the MCU has waned due to inconsistent movie and TV releases. These upcoming films are expected to be a fresh start, simplifying the complex multiverse into a single, shared universe where heroes like the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man can all team up. The movies promise to be massive, potentially featuring cameos from any actor who has played a significant Marvel character throughout the franchise’s history.
So, Marvel’s got a lot on its plate, but one thing they really need to address is the Hulk’s complicated story in the MCU. It sounds like after Secret Wars, they’re planning a bit of a soft reboot for Phase 7, and that could mean Mark Ruffalo’s time as the Hulk is coming to an end. There’s talk they might be looking at recasting some of the original Avengers with younger actors to freshen things up.
