Marvel Studios Announces Its 4th TV Show With 2 Lead Characters

Marvel Studios is planning more TV shows focused on just two characters, following the pattern of previous successful pairings. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured many team-ups over the past 17 years, most have happened within stories primarily focused on a single hero, outside of the big Avengers films. But with the expanding Multiverse Saga, Marvel seems to be shifting towards more shows that highlight the dynamic between just two characters.

Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel TV and animation, has described the upcoming Wonder Man series as focusing on two main characters. When asked if that accurately described the show – which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Sir Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery – Winderbaum confirmed it was. He explained that the two characters are connected by their shared passion for acting, despite being very different people, and have a strong connection with each other.

The upcoming show Wonder Man will be the fourth Marvel TV series to center around two main characters instead of just one. It’s expected to give equal attention to both Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery. While Williams is new to the MCU, Slattery has previously appeared in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi. The series will explore the world of Hollywood through their experiences with auditions and the challenges of being a working actor, with both characters playing significant roles.

WandaVision

The Marvel Cinematic Universe launched its Multiverse Saga with the 2021 series WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision. Over nine episodes, the show used different time periods of television as its backdrop while telling a story centered on the love between the two characters and the puzzle of how Vision was resurrected.

The story primarily followed Wanda’s transformation into the Scarlet Witch, but Vision discovered the truth about his resurrection – brought back by Wanda’s magic – before finding a new physical form. This sets the stage for VisionQuest, a third movie intended to complete the story begun in the hit series WandaVision, where both characters received significant focus and screen time.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Following the success of WandaVision, Marvel Studios launched The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+. The series stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes. The two are forced to team up in a surprising alliance to defeat the Flag Smashers, and their mission soon crosses paths with those of John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, and Lemar Hoskins, played by Clé Bennett.

The show primarily followed Sam Wilson as he transitioned from the Falcon to become Captain America. However, Bucky Barnes’ recovery from his time as the Winter Soldier was also a central part of the story. Both characters received significant screen time, allowing their friendship to grow and creating a lasting bond through their shared experiences.

Hawkeye

As a huge fan, I was so excited to finally see Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, get his own series on Disney+ in 2021! It was awesome seeing Jeremy Renner back in action, and even better to meet Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, who was a fantastic addition to the MCU. The show was a fun, action-packed ride set during the holidays, with a really cool conflict involving the Tracksuit Mafia. And let me tell you, seeing Vincent D’Onofrio return as Kingpin and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova really took things to the next level! It was everything I hoped for and more.

The show aimed to finally give Jeremy Renner a chance to be the central hero, but Hailee Steinfeld shared the spotlight as a newly introduced young hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although Renner intends to keep playing the character despite a serious accident, he’ll now mentor Steinfeld, and she, along with other potential young heroes, will likely lead the story going forward.

The upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe release of 2026 and the third show from Phase 6. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sir Ben Kingsley, and other notable actors, the series follows Simon Williams as he tries to land the lead role in a superhero film about Wonder Man, all while navigating the challenges of Hollywood. Wonder Man is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
