As a huge Marvel fan, thinking about that amazing Captain America moment in Endgame actually makes me realize how much the MCU has struggled lately. It’s clear things haven’t been quite right since then, and people have different ideas why – maybe it’s story issues, a lack of clear direction, or just not being as excited about the new heroes. Whatever it is, it’s noticeable – fans just aren’t as into what’s happening in the MCU as they used to be. And that’s a real concern, especially with Avengers: Doomsday coming up next year!
Looking back at Infinity War and Endgame after six years, both films delivered truly satisfying moments. These weren’t just fan-service cameos, but long-awaited resolutions to storylines. One of the most memorable moments actually came during the Endgame credits, accompanied only by Alan Silvestri’s music. While Endgame didn’t have any big post-credit surprises, it ended with a touching tribute to the original six Avengers actors, earning a final round of applause.
Once the credits started rolling in Endgame, each of the six original Avengers—Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye—received a personalized tribute. Their signatures appeared on screen with a striking outline of their character, giving fans a special final moment with these heroes.

The celebratory music kept playing as the spotlight moved to Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner, effectively concluding the Infinity Saga and, for now, these actors’ time as central figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

To highlight their importance, the original six Avengers received special animated portraits in the credits, unlike the rest of the cast who simply had their names appear. This emphasized that they weren’t just the leads in Endgame, but the central figures throughout the entire 11-year Infinity Saga, with the most significant roles over those films.

Throughout the first eleven years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. (as Tony Stark) and Chris Evans (as Steve Rogers) each appeared in eleven films. They were in every Avengers movie and each had their own three-film story arc, plus additional smaller roles, solidifying their positions as the central figures of the MCU.
For the first 23 Marvel movies, known as the Infinity Saga, characters like Iron Man and Captain America clearly led the story. But it’s harder to say who the main heroes are in the newer Multiverse Saga. Currently, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is set to have the most new movie appearances with two films – No Way Home and Brand New Day. Meanwhile, Daredevil and Loki will each have several seasons available on Disney+.
So far, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) are set to appear in the most live-action projects as the Multiverse Saga wraps up – five in total across movies and Disney+ series. This puts them on par with Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), who had the fewest appearances of any Avenger during the Infinity Saga.
I’m really excited about the next Avengers films, and it sounds like Marvel Studios is keeping a lot of big characters under wraps! Because of that, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see even more heroes pop up with more than just a few cameos.
The MCU Multiverse Saga’s Biggest Flaw Was the Infinity Saga’s Greatest Strength
After the events of Endgame, heroes like Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and the new Captain America (Sam Wilson) were expected to take the lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, they haven’t been featured prominently in recent stories.
The biggest issue with the Multiverse Saga is a lack of clear direction. A successful Avengers movie requires heroes that audiences are invested in and a threat that’s been developing, creating anticipation for a grand team-up.
Marvel hasn’t revealed who will be on the new Avengers team led by Sam Wilson. While there are rumors, the team seems to be a collection of heroes who haven’t worked together much, but will soon face threats from across the multiverse.
The powerful closing credits of Endgame, combined with Alan Silvestri’s inspiring music, “Main on End,” brought audiences to their feet in applause. Many had spent over a decade connecting with these characters and were saying goodbye to them at that moment.
If Secret Wars were to conclude the Multiverse Saga with post-credit scenes highlighting certain characters, it likely wouldn’t have the same impact as previous films. Even fan favorites like Yelena Belova still have significant storylines to explore, and their journeys are really just starting.
Ultimately, no six characters stand out as significantly more popular with fans than the others to warrant special recognition. In fact, this balance was a key strength of the Infinity Saga; while many heroes captivated audiences, these six Avengers remained central to the overarching story until the very end.
Okay, so I was reading an interview with Kevin Feige over at Variety, and he dropped a fascinating hint about Secret Wars. He basically said the film isn’t just about wrapping up storylines that started after Endgame – it’s very much about launching new ones too. It sounds like they’re aiming for a fresh start alongside the big conclusion, which is a really interesting approach.
We’re using this story to finish the arcs we started after ‘Endgame,’ but more importantly, it lays the groundwork for what comes next – and the ‘Secret Wars’ comics offer a hint of where we’re going. ‘Endgame’ focused on endings, while ‘Secret Wars’ is about new beginnings.
Because of this, Marvel Studios likely won’t use that particular storytelling device again in Doomsday or Secret Wars. They might bring it back, however, as a nod to the returning Marvel Legacy characters, who will probably be making their last appearances.
