Although it doesn’t feature any previously seen MCU heroes, Wonder Man is packed with nods and hidden references to the wider Marvel universe.

The show cleverly addresses fan concerns about the new Captain America, Sam Wilson, when Simon mentions him during his mother’s birthday. He jokes that Sam is “just a regular dude who can throw a shield,” which directly acknowledges the criticism some fans have had since Sam took over the role from Steve Rogers.

If Chris Evans truly won’t reprise his role as Captain America in the next Avengers film, it will confirm Marvel’s commitment to Sam Wilson as the new Captain America. Moreover, even with Steve Rogers around, Sam should lead the Avengers team he’s assembling – potentially even giving Steve orders.
