Marvel Teases Captain America’s First Mission After Waking From the Ice (Exclusive)

A fresh chapter for Marvel’s Captain America comics is approaching. Although Sam Wilson has been receiving most of the attention as Captain America, it doesn’t diminish Steve Rogers’ unwavering commitment to truth and justice. Marvel is gearing up for another reboot of Captain America featuring Steve Rogers, and the initial storyline will transport readers back in time, shortly after Cap was liberated from the ice that preserved him. It’s common knowledge that Captain America would eventually join the Avengers, but this new series allows readers to discover what transpired with Cap between his awakening and joining Earth’s most powerful heroes.

Exclusive sneak peek at issue #1 of Captain America, penned by Chip Zdarsky, illustrated by Valerio Schiti, colored by Frank Martin, and lettered by VC’s Joe Caramagna: In this installment, Steve Rogers is seen casually dining in a diner. A customer and the waitress converse about New York City’s transformation. Under his brown trench coat, Captain America’s uniform remains hidden. A local radio broadcast discusses Tony Stark relocating his company to focus less on weapon production. However, a distress call from a police officer catches Cap’s attention, as gunfire erupts and the suspect is on the run.

Outside the diner, there are injured policemen, one of whom informs Cap that the suspect fled on a motorcycle. She mentions they’re heading towards the United Nations building, but Cap is clueless about its location. Upon recognizing Cap, the officer discards his trench coat and chases after the suspect on another bike. Cap’s comment about being unfamiliar with the U.N. building suggests this story happens post-his thawing period.

In the rearview mirror, the suspect notices Captain America and starts shooting with a pistol. Given his skill, the suspect can handle riding a vehicle while firing simultaneously, a clear indication of military-grade training. Cap swiftly deflects the bullets using his shield before sending one back to strike a street post, effectively neutralizing them. However, as the Captain America #1 preview concludes, we discover that the suspect is wearing an explosive device on their body.

In Marvel’s Captain America comic book series, we can expect a brand new stealth outfit for our hero, and Steve Rogers will be directing a group of Howling Commandos. Artist Valerio Schiti has shared sneak peeks of the stealth suit on social media, including some unseen stealth costumes of Captain America himself.

Writer Chip Zdarsky recently expressed his excitement about working on the Captain America title, stating that it feels like a dream come true after being a devoted fan for many years. He particularly enjoyed writing the grizzled older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, but getting to write the actual Captain America is an even greater honor for him. The story will delve into Captain America’s early days in the modern era with a surprising twist that he believes will captivate readers. Zdarsky is thrilled about sharing this project with the world, especially since it will feature Valerio and Frank’s incredible artwork!

I’ve been tackling

Schiti stated, ‘Captain America ranks high among my all-time favorites.’ He’s teaming up again with Chip Zdarsky and Frank Martin, following the fantastic collaboration on Marvel 2-In-One. The story he’s working on now offers a harmonious blend of emotion, action, and fun. What makes it particularly intriguing is that his thoughts have been drifting more towards Steve Rogers, rather than just Captain America.

Chip’s writing is both clever and captivating, drawing readers deeply into Steve’s emotional world. He’s an individual who embodied truth, justice, and freedom, bravely waging a battle against Nazism. Remarkably, he was ‘killed’ during this war but miraculously returned to life to continue his mission. This carries an immense burden, and considering the time period we’re delving into, Steve is barely in his thirties.

In this debut issue, we embark on a fresh chapter for Captain America! As Steve Rogers lies frozen, the world shifts – some aspects improve, while others deteriorate. Upon awakening, he finds himself in a world where conflicts are waged covertly through deceit and hidden agendas, making it difficult to pinpoint villains. When a budding tyrant named Victor Von Doom conquers Latveria, Steve is confronted with a challenging question: should he adapt to this new form of warfare or carve his own path? The choice he makes now could significantly impact his future. Witness the untold story of Captain America’s initial encounter with Doctor Doom as Chip Zdarsky and Valerio Schiti collaborate on an exciting, pivotal new era for CAPTAIN AMERICA!
