Arc System Works intends to maintain the thrilling PS5 fighting game Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite in active development for a decade or more, likely ensuring its continued support even through the PlayStation 6 era and beyond.
Over the weekend, Takeshi Yamanaka, the producer, shared his thoughts during a talk at Evo. According to translations by PS Studios’ Reed Baird, here’s what he had to say:
Or simply:
At Evo this past weekend, Takeshi Yamanaka, the producer, spoke about his thoughts. As interpreted by PS Studios’ Reed Baird, here’s the translation of his remarks:
“For the next 10 years, we plan to keep making this game the best experience ever.”
The combat game isn’t set for a specific release yet, but it’s anticipated to come out prior to Evo 2026, meaning it should debut within approximately a year. A closed testing phase is scheduled for PlayStation 5 in September.

As an ardent gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel excited about the whispers surrounding the potential next-gen console from Sony, tentatively known as the PS6. While there’s no official confirmation yet, rumors and leaked specifications have started to surface, hinting at a release date around 2027. Here’s to hoping these rumors are true, and we can immerse ourselves in an even more immersive gaming experience then!
While 10 years does sound like a long time, it’s not enormously surprising.
Initially launched in 2018, Dragon Ball FighterZ wasn’t until 2024 that it was adapted for the PlayStation 5, a span of about six years.
Although Guilty Gear Strive was initially launched in 2021, significant updates for the game are still planned for 2026.
The longevity of much of this extended support hinges significantly on the title’s overall performance, yet considering the immense excitement for Marvel Tokon and the rich reservoir of comic book characters that Arc System Works possesses, it’s not hard to imagine it having a prolonged existence.
Fighting games have, by and large, become live service games these days.
This week, the Year 3 Pass for Street Fighter 6 was released, initiating a fresh wave of content, which includes the character Sagat at launch, and hints at the return of characters like C. Viper in the future.
In the same vein, Tekken 8 continues its path, introducing Armor King in October, followed by another character and a Madagascar stage later on.
It’s quite likely that games similar to these, such as Evo-level competitions, will continue to grow with additional characters and gameplay modes due to regular updates. Consequently, it is reasonable to anticipate that Marvel Tokon will have an extensive DLC strategy.
As a gamer, I can’t wait to dive into this new game, but first, I need to know what it has in store for me at launch. So far, I only have a sneak peek of one stage and eight characters, but I’m optimistic that more announcements are on the horizon, possibly kicking off at Gamescom this month!
