Marvel Turns an Original Member of the X-Men Into a Ruthless Killing Machine

It’s not just Wolverine among the X-Men who has been transformed into a relentless weapon. In the storyline of Ultimate Wolverine, Logan was initially portrayed as a brainwashed assassin for the Eurasian Republic, known as the Winter Soldier, and he was set against his former allies in the Opposition. Fortunately, they managed to free him from his programming, and now he fights alongside them. However, not all mutants have been as fortunate as Wolverine. The Ultimate Wolverine storyline has already shown some tragic outcomes for our beloved X-Men, but one of Charles Xavier’s original X-Men might have faced an even more dire situation than Logan.

In issue #8 of “Ultimate Wolverine”, penned by Chris Condon, Alessandro Cappuccio, Bryan Valenza, and VC’s Cory Petit, we find Wolverine donning a new outfit to join a team reminiscent of the Suicide Squad called Strike Team X from the Opposition. Their mission: infiltrate a facility on Snake Island within the Eurasian Republic to liberate imprisoned mutants. However, upon entering the facility, they uncover a gruesome sight – every worker is deceased and their bodies are laced with sharp razor blades. This discovery leaves Kitty Pryde stunned and terrified.

As Strike Team X advances further into the complex, they stumble upon a vast chamber filled with lifeless bodies. Across these corpses, a figure shrouded in darkness seems to be conversing alone. He keeps muttering, “I won’t let you,” repeatedly. Kitty immediately identifies the feathery appendages sprouting from this individual’s torso. This is none other than Warren Worthington, one of the founding X-Men in the primary Marvel Universe, but this isn’t the noble Angel that fans are familiar with. This is Archangel, thirsty for vengeance.

Ultimate Wolverine’s Angel Is More Dangerous Than Apocalypse’s Horseman of Death

Kitty Pryde intends to aid Angel, mirroring how the resistance liberated Wolverine from mind control. As Kitty advances, Angel grows protective and lashes out with his metallic wings. Kitty phases through the metal feathers she’s hit with, but neither Beast nor Abigail Brand have the same defensive abilities as Wolverine due to his healing factor.

Instead, they helped him return to being a hero, and the same can happen for Angel – they should at least make an attempt.

It’s disheartening to observe that Warren Worthington consistently finds himself manipulated in others’ malicious schemes, regardless of time. The Opposition managed to reverse the damage inflicted on Wolverine’s mind using David Haller/Legion, indicating they might attempt a similar tactic with Angel. By the end of Ultimate Wolverine #8, Logan sends a clear warning to Dr. Prostovich, head of Directorate X, seeking retribution for the harm inflicted on him, Angel, and numerous other mutants.
