Just in time for Halloween, Disney+ has released a terrifying new series featuring some of Marvel’s most iconic characters as zombies. Marvel Zombies shows heroes like Captain America, Hawkeye, Namor, and Scarlet Witch craving human flesh. In a surprising twist, the Hulk has become even more powerful in this zombie-filled universe, and it wasn’t caused by a bite. We’ll explain how Bruce Banner’s story has changed in this new series.
Heads up! This article contains major spoilers for the *Marvel Zombies* animated series, so don’t read on if you haven’t watched it yet. The series is set five years after the events of *What If…?,* which first introduced the Marvel Zombies universe. While it takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, the show frequently flashes back to explore what happened to the characters in the previous series. A key moment involves Black Panther sacrificing himself to defeat the zombie version of Thanos and destroy the Infinity Gauntlet. However, his actions put Wakanda, and ultimately the entire world, in danger, leading to the involvement of Bruce Banner.
The Infinity Hulk
At the end of the Marvel Zombies storyline in *What If…?*, the Hulk was battling the Scarlet Witch, who had become the Queen of the Dead. To prevent the energy from the shattered Infinity Gauntlet from destroying everything, Bruce Banner absorbed it all. This created a new, incredibly powerful version of the Hulk, dubbed the “Infinity Hulk.” Instead of causing chaos or joining the Avengers, this Hulk is now focused on protecting his immense power from the zombie horde. However, even with this new strength, things quickly take a turn for the worse.
The last episode of *Marvel Zombies* sees Scarlet Witch trying to gain the Hulk’s power to rebuild the world, and as the Queen of the Dead, she’s a major threat. Miss Marvel leads the remaining heroes in a desperate attempt to stop Wanda from reaching Bruce Banner, but they suffer heavy losses. Wanda ultimately succeeds, absorbing the power of the “Infinity Hulk” and seemingly resetting the universe to a time before the zombie outbreak. While a second season hasn’t been announced, some clues suggest this might not be the end of *Marvel Zombies*, which is concerning for Kamala Khan and the other survivors.
