Marvel Zombies Rotten Tomatoes Score Proves It Isn’t MCU’s Best

The new animated series, *Marvel Zombies*, recently launched on Disney+ and has received a somewhat mixed reaction from critics, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Bryan Andrews and featuring the voice talents of Elizabeth Olsen, Simu Liu, and Florence Pugh, the four-episode show blends horror elements with the superhero genre. While many appreciate this combination, reviewers are split on how well it fits into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Zombies reviews lead to an average Rotten Tomatoes score

The Marvel Zombies animated series has received a 62% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, based on reviews from 21 critics. Viewers seem to enjoy it more, giving it an 84% audience score from over 250 ratings. Bryan Andrews directed the series, which centers on Marvel heroes battling a zombie outbreak.

Reviews of the show were mixed. Bob Strauss of the San Francisco Chronicle praised its storytelling, calling it masterful despite its short length, while Rendy Jones from RogerEbert.com felt it lacked originality and played it too safe.

Honestly, as a big Marvel fan, I was pretty disappointed with this one. Jarrod Jones from AV Club wasn’t impressed, saying the heroes just didn’t have the same energy as the villains! Sean Boelman over at FandomWire gave it a low score too, feeling like it relied too much on shock value. And Joshua Ryan from The Cosmic Circus pointed out that even bringing back characters like Kate Bishop and Shang-Chi couldn’t save it – it just didn’t feel like a story worthy of those characters.

Zach Pope enjoyed the four-part series, calling it a tribute to post-apocalyptic horror and giving it a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars. Viewers generally agreed, praising the characters Kamala Khan, Riri Williams, and Kate Bishop, as well as Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal of Wanda Maximoff. Many people who watched expressed interest in seeing another season.

As a big fan of Marvel animation, I’ve been keeping track of how the shows are being received, and it’s interesting to see where ‘Marvel Zombies’ lands compared to the others. While shows like ‘X-Men ’97’ (with a whopping 99%!) and ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ (97%) are incredibly popular, and even ‘What If…?’ (85%) is doing well, ‘Zombies’ is a bit lower at 62%. ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ is also performing strongly with 92%, and it’s officially part of the main MCU storyline. Honestly, ‘Zombies’ is closer in score to live-action shows like ‘The Punisher’ (64%) than the really top-rated animated ones, and thankfully, it’s way ahead of something like ‘Inhumans’ which only got 11%.

The show released on September 24, 2025, and consists of four episodes rated TV-MA.
