As a huge Marvel fan, I was completely hooked by *What If…?*, especially the episode “What If… Zombies?!” – it was such a fun, spooky take on the characters we know and love, and clearly a hit! It’s no surprise Marvel is doubling down with a whole spin-off series, also called *Marvel Zombies*, coming this September. I just read an interview with Brad Winderbaum and Bryan Andrews, the folks behind the show, and they’ve already got ideas brewing for a potential second season! They’re basically ready to go if the first one does well, which I’m pretty sure it will. It’s exciting to think about where they could take this concept!
Winderbaum urged viewers to subscribe to Disney+ and watch the show, explaining that doing so would lead to more content. He expressed excitement and readiness to deliver if viewers respond positively.
I just finished watching *Marvel Zombies*, and honestly, its fate could really signal where Marvel Studios is heading. They’re clearly rethinking things after a few recent box office misses – those last three MCU movies weren’t the hits everyone expected. It sounds like they’re slowing down, aiming for fewer projects but hoping each one really *delivers*. With TV, they’re leaning towards shows they can build over multiple seasons, and *Marvel Zombies* definitely fits that bill. But they’re being super careful, watching closely to see if we connect with it before they commit to making more. It’s a smart move, given the current climate, and I can’t help but feel a lot rides on how audiences respond to this one.
What Stories Can Marvel Zombies Tell in Season 2?

As a huge Marvel fan, I remember when the idea of zombies taking over the Marvel Universe first popped up – it actually started in the comics! Back in 2005, Robert Kirkman (who later created *The Walking Dead*) and artist Sean Phillips launched this five-issue series called *Marvel Zombies*, and it quickly became a fan favorite. It all began with a storyline in Mark Millar’s *Ultimate Fantastic Four*, and it showed this really dark take on reality where a virus turns all the heroes into flesh-eating zombies. The original series was a hit, and it led to tons of sequels and spin-offs that really expanded that post-apocalyptic world, even introducing zombified cosmic characters and crossovers with other stories. Now, with Season 2 of *Marvel Zombies* coming to Disney+, Brad Winderbaum has confirmed that while the comics are a big inspiration, this new series is definitely going to tell its own unique story.
The creative team had a lot of flexibility in choosing characters and storylines for the show, but they always had to consider established backstory and continuity. As the original comic series evolved from Mark Millar’s work to Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips’ vision, the show similarly built upon the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continuity – specifically, the 616 universe. We were starting with a different set of established elements than previous stories. The existing lore is incredibly detailed, and Brian and I often discuss other characters and storylines within that universe and where we might take things if we get a second season.
Marvel Zombies is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on September 24, 2025.
