Marvel’s Horror Game Gets Encouraging Update After Years of Silence

As a Marvel fan, I was really pleased to see an update on the upcoming Blade game from Arkane Lyon – the team behind Dishonored. They showed off a fantastic cinematic trailer at The Game Awards 2023, giving us a glimpse of the Daywalker in a beautifully realized Paris. It definitely has me excited to see where they take this iconic character!

While the famous comic book company has several major video games in development over the next few years, this particular title has remained relatively quiet. Thankfully, one of the game’s key developers recently shared that it’s progressing well.

Dinga Bakaba, Studio/Co-Creative Director at Arkane Lyon, recently shared the first update on the Blade video game in years via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He stated that the development team is making good progress and expressed confidence that the game will live up to their own high expectations. “The team is hard at work,” he said, adding, “It will be a special game, and we all hope it will be meeting the high standards that we set for ourselves.”

The team is working incredibly hard and really pushing themselves to deliver a fantastic experience. We appreciate your patience, and we’re confident the game will be special and live up to the high quality you expect from us.

Fans are finally getting a major update on the project after a long wait. The last big news came almost two years ago, when the studio announced the game had entered full production in January 2024 – just a month after it was first revealed.

The upcoming game Blade will center around the main character fighting to become Paris’s champion, and it’s challenging the Arkane team to create something new with a famous comic book hero. Currently, there’s no information on when or on what platforms the game will be released.

The Blade video game isn’t the only project featuring the character. Marvel Studios has also been working on a Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali for a while now. However, the movie is still in development and doesn’t have a confirmed release date. You can find more details about the movie here.

When Will Fans Next See Arkane’s Blade Game? 

The only preview of the new Blade game so far was its impressive first trailer, released over two years ago. However, that trailer didn’t show any actual gameplay – it was all created using computer animation.

Honestly, beyond the trailer, we haven’t gotten much to look at from this game – just a few pieces of artwork. That’s been pretty much it so far, and as a fan, I’m really hoping they show more soon!

Fans were worried about the future of the Blade game earlier this year when Microsoft closed Arkane’s Austin studio after the disappointing launch of Redfall. However, it seems the Blade project is still moving forward despite the studio closure.

With production on Blade now in its second year, the game is probably still a few years from release. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if Arkane and Microsoft showcased it again with new marketing materials sometime next year.

Microsoft continues to hold its own gaming event around the traditional E3 timeframe in early June, and that seems like the most likely place we’ll see this game again. We might even get a first look at actual gameplay, giving fans a preview of the action in Arkane’s new Marvel game.

Even if we don’t hear more about the Blade game in 2026, fans of superhero video games will still have plenty to enjoy in the next year. Big titles like Marvel’s Wolverine and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight are already planned. Still, many are curious to see how Arkane’s vampire-themed action game is progressing.
