In a unique collaboration, Iron Man and Emma Frost reunite in the upcoming comic titled “Iron & Frost“. To celebrate 30 years since the launch of “Age of Apocalypse“, we’re diving into an entirely new dystopian future. The villainous Apocalypse was known for eliminating those he deemed weak, and building a world that only robust mutants could inhabit. Although Apocalypse is gone, his objective lives on through his chosen successor, Doug Ramsey, who has assumed the powers of Apocalypse and calls himself Revelation. This narrative takes us a decade forward into the “Age of Revelation“.
In a hypothetical dystopian scenario, Revelation, now endowed with new abilities, transforms much of the United States into what appears to be a utopia for mutants, with the ultimate goal of eradicating humanity and the vulnerable. We’re thrilled to give you an exclusive preview of Iron & Frost #1, a spin-off comic penned by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Ruairi Coleman. This series centers around the unanticipated duo of Iron Man and Emma Frost, who, though they were only married for strategic purposes in recent issues, eventually divorced. However, their past union unexpectedly left them with a genuine bond. Despite the short-lived marriage, they reunite to confront a fresh danger that could potentially destroy everything they hold dear.
Cold Enemies With Hearts of Iron
The story begins with an action-packed scenario outside the Avengers Mansion. Iron Man, War Machine, Firestar, and Emma Frost engage in combat against numerous adversaries. Among them is Marrow, who once was an X-Man but now seems to be a follower of Revelation. While the art speaks for itself, you don’t need further explanation about Emma rushing towards two terrified civilians hiding behind a car, one wearing a gas mask and the other not.
In an unexpected display of tender care, Emma embraces the young girl tightly before resuming the battle. She mentally incapacitates the attacker that Firestar couldn’t subdue, while Tony and Rhodey deal with the one in the air. The last panel reveals the older civilian lying on the ground, and the young girl using her powers to impale their assailant with stone spikes. Emma gazes in disbelief at the gruesome sight, and upon eliminating the final adversary, Tony is taken aback by what he beholds. This girl appears to be a mutant, either one who’s been transformed by the X-Virus Revelation or one who’s naturally gifted. Regardless of her origin, she’s undeniably powerful.
Sixteen years have passed since the destructive terrorist attack by 3K claimed both Tony Stark and Emma Frost’s world. Now, the relentless Emma Frost reemerges in the remnants of her past. Hidden secrets lurk among the rubble of New York City. The Hellfire Club has a new, dangerous leader emerging.
Iron & Frost #1 goes on sale Wednesday, October 15th.
